When I submitted my post, not only did I NOT get a posting confirmation, but I also received a “web site not responding” error message. And before I even posted ONCE, I got a “you can’t post for 60 seconds” message. I tried again several times, always with the same results. The sextuple postings here were unintentional as were the multiple postings on the WHALE RIDER thread. Seems like I offended some of you by doing so—how petty. And as far as MY impatience is concerned, I have better things to do than playing on a pc all day. Obviously, not all of you can say the same. Don’t bother flaming me—since anonymity allows you to be mean-spirited, intolerant dipshits, I won’t waste my time further reading your responses. 'Nuff said. ---

Ah, give the kid a break, he/she doesn’t know the SDMB and when the good times are to post. By the looks of it he/she hasn’t been here but about 24 hours. On that note… Rules of posting at the SDMB: 1. The site is slow from about 5:00 am - 12:00 am Straight Dope time…aka Chicago aka Central time. 2. When posting, trust the website. I almost always posts your post or thread. When in doubt and you have written a truly wonderful post, copy it into WordPad – as previously suggested. 3. When new to any message board, lighten up. You need to get to know the people, the site and how it works. Many of us previous newbies learned the hard way or were too stubborn to listen. 4. To go more with #3, this is a fabulous site with some of the greatest people. Peppered in with a bunch of assholes. Making this one of the most populated and most read message boards (I gather) on the internet. This is a FREE site that is held together with duct tape and string. You get what you pay for and heck it’s much like Woodstock, sometimes you gotta pee in the woods and not in nicely decorated porta-potties. Well, take it or leave it. 24 hours is hardly enough time to decide whether a place is worthy of hanging out in. ---

The speed of the board is based on your participation-level, just like certain unmentionable peer-to-peer networking applications. Quite a bit of hamster-power goes into a sophisticated Bayesian analysis of each post to determine the statistical probability of it containing intelligent communication. Cecil himself has also authored a proprietary server-side script that dynamically renders natural language into symbolic logic and then ranks it according to both internal and contextual consitency. All network traffic is prioritized according each member’s DopeRank status, which is established by combining their Aggregate Content Analysis Index with data provided via secret ballot by members of the Clique. It’s only natural that you’re having trouble at first, **Nanook** , since your ACAI took quite a beating for redundancy. Stick with it, though. Slow and steady wins the race, and all that. ---

Okay, been there / done that. I’m not sure yet, but things seem to be a lot better now that I’m not on AOHELL. One thing I’ve found is that the “'Once Every 60” notice usually means your post HAS gone up. Don’t hit it again! If you flat out can’t post, try going to a different thread for a while and trying again later. Threads with high and frequent post counts will have the on-line equivalent of a waiting list. You’ll probably find that several other people were trying to get in their $.02 at the same time. ---
