Whenever someone questions one of his posts, Thomas used to respond with a string of his own questions designed to find out how good of a Christian you are. These days, he mostly just does a quick fade. Or, if someone threatens to punch him in the nose, he gets Admin to hide the thread. Your question on the Pharisees deserves a thread of it’s own, though… Start one, and let’s see what they have to say. -David ---

Nah, you can if you want. If I was going to start one, it would be to see what their reaction was to the _Atlantic_ piece. But I really am trying to get out of there more or less permanently, or at least rarely go beyond lurking. ---

Most of the broken threads seem to be fixed, but I posted a message here that still isn’t showing up. Anyway, in case it never arrives, I noted that I haven’t checked out LBMB in a while, so if anything interesting is going on, let me know. I don’t know when I’ll check it again, though I might have some free time this weekend since I’m obviously not doing anything for Christmas. 🙂 ---

Just stopped by there while the SDMB was briefly down. Noticed that a new School Prayer thread was going, and thought, “This is one of the many reasons I don’t like this place - all the stuff I’ve already said on the subject here has undoubtedly been sent to oblivion.” How many times can a man answer the same dumb questions? Forty-two is NOT the answer; I’m outa there. ---

That’s a big part of my problem with it as well. If you’ve been following certain threads _here_ you’ve seen me get impatient with folks for asking the same questions over and over again after I’d already answered them. Ok, now multiply that a few times and delete out the previous times I’d said the stuff, so I can’t even point back to it! Grrrr… ---

I was wondering how long it would take you guys to get frustrated with a board that has a 20:1 ratio of ARG220 types to RTF/Polycarp types. 😉 You guys might want to venture over again in the next day or so (make sure you haven’t eaten recently). Nearly every thread is addressing the weighty questions of “How do you intend to survive the Y2K disaster (with the Lord)?” “How many terrorists will infiltrate our Christian (PTL) country at the millennium?” “Have you seen the new implantable mark-of-the-beast chips that have just been patented in time for the Y2K/Millennium disaster (but God will save us)?” etc. (And I do mean nearly _every_ thread.) ---

Thanks, Tom. And the same back to ya. 🙂 I think I’ll just stay away for a few days - after all, ‘tis the season to be eatin’. (Would make being a bulimic easier, though - eat 'til you’re stuffed, then visit the LBMB!) Or, lurk on their site between now and 12/31/99, save the best posts in a Notepad file, then start a thread after 1/1/00: “Best of LBMB Millennium Panic”, and post all the stuff you’d saved from before. I won’t do that - just too much trouble, in the midst of a busy season - but it would be just the right wascally-wabbit sorta thing to do. But I am very appreciative of the people here on the SDMB. Ever since the Internet got opened up to a wider group than techies, professors, and grad students, most of the places where one might get involved in any sort of online conversation have been dominated by people with too much time and too little sense or consideration for their fellow humans. This board is a wonderful exception. People here are, by and large, intelligent, well-read, respectful of other points of view (as long as those who hold those points of view support them with evidence in the appropriate places), and genuinely enjoy a good discussion as an opportunity to learn a bit more, rather than strictly as an opportunity to win an argument. Not that _everybody_ here is like that, of course - I’ve had to bare my teeth at pests on a couple of occasions here - but they’re rare enough that their presence isn’t a major problem. So Tom, David, andros, tracer, and anyone who might still be lurking on this thread (I know jab’s already headed for Texas), happy holidays, whatever you’re celebrating, be it Christmas, Saturnalia, or just a pleasant long weekend. It’s cool to have a place online to get to know people like you. ---

The Left Behind message board just added a few cosmetic upgrades – including new animated icons for topic folders with more than 35 messages in them. The animation looks like little flames leaping up from the folders. Geez, their color scheme _already_ looked like the fires of Hell, and now this! 🙂 ---

Yeah, I saw it today. I also saw one next to the e-mail icon for quoting and responding to somebody (guess it’s like hitting “Reply” but also quotes – I didn’t try it out). I think I’m done there, at least for a while. I just can’t keep going back and typing the same thing, day in and day out, only to have it later disappear so the same idiots can ask the same questions and act like they’ve never been answered… It’s bad enough when some of the idiots do that around here, and I _like_ this message board! 🙂 ---
