So far, he’s managing to avoid the descent into frustrated anger that has been the nemesis of so many of his proselytizing brethren. Maybe he will be able to maintain dispassion, patience, and kindness.
I think the SDMB must be widely known as a tough circuit for the missionary people. Maybe you get double credit for hours here. Every encounter with **Der Trihs** counts for one plenary indulgence, or other penance.
“I used the Lord’s name in vain, and I coveted my neighbor’s Alfa-Romeo.”
“Fifteen cycles of the Rosary…or two days posting to SDMB.”

I see a 6 or 7 hour gap between two posters with similar themes in their posts (and lots of random Bible quotes), and I draw the obvious connection.

polar opposite themes - Okieshowdem was denouncing ‘christians’ and bible believers as having been decieved - Timo is promoting the bible and ‘stock’ christianity.

He’s a run of the mill proselytizer. Harmless and easy to ignore if you’re not interested. He’s not debating, he’s witnessing so accept that you can’t convince him and let it go.

I disagree with this pitting. **Timo** is vastly more willing to listen to his contradictors than most of the new posters who come in to witness (not even counting those who just post their drivel, and don’t even bother to respond to the answers), and willing to admit his ignorance. He also stays polite in front of a massive opposition.
I don’t think he deserves a pitting. The worst he has done so far is inserting “haha…” in every other paragraph.

Spouting out Bible verses is answering in your book? He even admits they are meaningless to a nonbeliever, and yet he still spouts.
I don’t think he is a troll or evil, or even nasty. He just has the IQ of a turnip.

This. Undeserved pitting. Timo is (so far) ranking at about a 1 on the obnoxiousness scale (and I think many of us oldtimers, myself included, rank at about a 3 through sheer inherent grumpiness).
The bible quote thing is irritating but it takes a while for people who have been brainwashed as he has to get their head around the idea that we don’t ascribe importance to the content of the bible: an idea that this poor fellow has probably never come across before.
At least he doesn’t seem afraid to admit he could be wrong and admits he has much to learn. That makes him better than about 95% of his fellow would-be proselytizers.
I tend to regard people like him as pitiable rather than pittable.

Which I think is more in the way of a textual smiley face than anything else. I agree that he seems basically polite and “mostly harmless” (so far).
But yeah, continuing to quote from _The Goblet of Fire_ to prove that Harry Potter is real… you do have to wonder.
