It’s just so annoying, though…a couple of months ago, no one knew who Sarah Palin was. Now, she’s being personally blamed for polar bears eating each other. If you want to be mad about the polar bears, be mad. But don’t make global warming and polar bear cannibalism about her…make it about what it is. The only thing a complaint like this does is make people take the problem _less seriously_. ---

The Op was expressed terribly but Sarah Palin is and has been as Governor of Alaska one of the bigger proponents to drill, drill, Drill! Wildlife be damned. The Sierra Club has been complaining about her for more than a couple of months. I agree she is only one small part of the problem but the fact is that her attitude and policies are a continuation of the problem. Denying AGW and wanting to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge are a big part of her message. These acts and the oil companies she effectively works for are “endangering” the future of Polar Bears. Sure I find the Op embarrassing as a Green. This is the type of hysterical overreaction done without a basic knowledge of the issue that gives Drillers and AGW opponents the ammunition to claim Greens are nuts. So seriously, what is there about Sarah Palin that is so worth defending? Surely she is not the brains of the Republican Party you want in the future? On a personal level, I must admit I admire her, and I believe that she gets a lot of criticism that a man wouldn’t. On the other hand, I think she deals with a lot of issues that aren’t as relevant to other states…she’s a specialist, of sorts, and I’m not sure how effective she would be on the national level. Regarding this issue…I know squat about Alaska, oil drilling, and polar bears, so I can’t say if she is rightly criticized for this. I’ll go out on a limb and say that she IS placing other priorities above the plight of the polar bear. Whether or not she is at all justified in that, or whether or not she is deliberately downplaying the danger to the polar bear population, I can’t say. But all of that is kind of beside my point. And no, I’m not a particularly big fan of Sarah Palin. But in this instance, she’s right, **Washoe** is wrong, and yet the vicious attack against Palin is shrugged off. Palin wrong about polar bears? Hey, she’s a neo-Christian cunt. **Washoe** wrong about polar bears? Um… not so bad, really, because **Washoe** ’s heart is in the right place, or some such. Apparently any attack, correct or not, is OK if leveled at Palin.
