Probably because it was founded in Hong Kong (as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation), and its headquarters were there until the Chinese takeover.
Yeah, but I’m sure most people know that Hong Kong was British at the time. And HSBC moved to London as soon as the Chinese took over. It was never Chinese.
