That does make more sense than the casual jury tampering that Henry Fonda engages in for no reason.

On the TCM introduction by David Letterman and Alec Baldwin of the 1946 Bogart-Bacall film The Big Sleep, they talk about a version of it where the plot actually makes sense. This version was shown only at army bases in 1945, but once the studio found out what gold they had in Bogart and Bacall after To Have and Have Not came out, they re-shot a bunch of scenes to give the audience more of the two of them together. In the process, some crucial plot points apparently went out the window.
Not a different ending per se, almost a different movie. One I would like to see.
Jack Burton has a moment of clarity (effects of the potion, of course) and realizes that he is, in fact, Wang Chi’s sidekick in this adventure.
There really was a different ending for Scott Pilgrim vs the World (it’s available as a bonus scene on the home video version). In this alternate ending, Scott ends up with Knives instead of Ramona.
In a literal sense, the rest of the movie is unchanged. But the different ending has a profound effect on the meaning of the rest of the movie. In the theatrical version of the movie, the central story is about the relationship between Scott and Ramona, with Knives as a supporting character. But the alternate version reduces Ramona to the level of a supporting character without raising Knives up to a main character level. This means the movie becomes entirely Scott’s story. This difference occurs entirely due to the change in the narrative structure; Ramona has virtually the same amount of screen time in both versions.
“The Caine Mutiny” Captain Queeg leaves his steel balls in his locker, calmly explains his actions and the court upholds him. Lt Maryk is hung for mutiny, Keefer is washed out and becomes a widower with three boys. The prosecutor leaves the service and becomes a defense attorney with his gay son. Keith goes to prison for 20 years. Meatball and Horrible become movie stars.
Inside Out: Joy gets left in the Memory Dump and Sadness gets back to HQ too late. Riley gets back to Minnesota where she becomes an apathetic, homeless teen. She sells herself for money since she finds no joy in anything, she doesn’t care. Finally, she kills her first John… and the psychopathic spree of terror continues.
Someone posted something like that on youtube. They eliminated all the flashbacks and black & white scenes, then just put all the real time scenes in chronological order.
It was depressing and sad to see how deranged Lenny was in real time. But it was a great watch. Sadly it got taken down off youtube.
It’s been a while since I read it. I can’t remember. What was the “original” version?
(Note, the first time I read it, I was unaware that Jane Eyre was even a real book.)
