The people who keep suggesting that Ms. Clinton would be a good choice for VP are a puzzle to me. It’s almost as if they are suggesting or implying that she and Mr. Bill would be the “real” power and Mr. Obama needs their “experience” to function.
I think she would make a terrible VP, based on the way she’s run her campaign. As someone said above, she represents precisely what Obama campaigned against and he has no need to pander to them at all. His nomination is historic, and he is his own man.
One of the impressions I’m getting is that Hillary thinks her 18 million supporters/voters are all jihadists, reading to strap one on for her. “If I quit, who will they vote for in November? I’m all they’ve got!”
Of all people, she should understand the different reasons people have for voting for one candidate over another.
I suspect that the majority of her supporters won’t have any trouble voting for Obama in November. (West Virginia excluded.)
Ahhhhh that’s interesting. It seems to me that they can through implied threat try to pressure him into choosing her with some sort of “Isn’t it obvious” game but if he declines they pretty much have to support him no matter what if they don’t want to look like scumbags and sore losers. Then again, maybe they don’t care and that’s just what they are. Let’s hope not.
And just freakin wait until he beats McCain. I know I’ll get all vaklempt with the hope of a new day and direction for the USA. I’m just trying to decide how I will campaign for him other than just talking to friends.
Damn. I got to see most of it, but had to leave for the bus at about quarter till. Personally, of what I did see, I would have liked to see him a bit tougher on Israel’s part in the conflict; he was somewhat, but I grudgingly understand why he couldn’t be more so. One part that didn’t work for me though was when he hammered home the “whatever it takes” line three times that got the crowd going.
That said, it was still a great speech and Barack Obama is going to be a great President.
We thankfully still have access to our old LP network, and we’re using it. Obama is a natural choice for those who love freedom — both social and economic. There is quite a lot of support for him in the libertarian community.
Well, he did a pretty good job in 2006 with the House elections. He seems like a tough street fighter type, so I wonder why he waited so long. Is he DLC…?
No, although that guy was 2nd runner up for me. He’s the guy on the opposite side, in a dark shirt and next to the red-head… he’s mostly half cropped-off in this video, but still a fascinating specimen. I noticed him a speech or two ago, and he was roughly in the same position. I can’t remember which speech it was, but he was at the top of his game in that one.
DCW lists 14 supers so far today that have declared for Obama, including 2 who have switched from Clinton. (One of those is Walter Mondale.) I feel sorry for that poor cad from Guam that she’s trotting around as evidence that supers might switch to her.
I kept fast-forwarding through HRC’s speech, trying to skip over the stump speech material and get to the part where she conceded.
Not to harsh anyone’s buzz, but one of the first things I heard this morning (on NPR) was a Hillary supporter talking about how she’s now going to vote McCain.
And also, keep in your mind the West Virgina Democrat (shown on the Daily Show) who said she voted for Hillary because she was “tired of the whole Hooo-sayn thing”. This is what Obama has to deal with in the general.
I’m not the least bit worried about that. When it finally dawns on the idiots that McCain will appoint justices to overturn Roe v Wade, they’ll come back. And hopefully they’ll shut up.
McCauliffe was downing shots on Morning Joe (MSNBC) this morning. He was pretty wired, but still fairly lucid (and oh-so-slightly less delusional than last night).
On the contrary, it is my skepticism that’s at work here. If I thought they’d stick to their principles, I’d worry. But they hold pro-choice uber alles. When it dawns on them that McCain is pro-life, they’ll recoil in horror.
Just what George Will said last night! It was a great speech. Gave me chills. I think I actually may be developing a little bit of a mancrush on Obama; I can’t help it. On to Denver!
