IMO that’s the beauty of our system when it is working correctly. I have a couple of great republican friends who fall into this category. Honest, hard working, self motivated people who stress personal responsibility. In principle they are against bad welfare programs that allow or encourage people to be unmotivated, but they are equally against the currant system of lobbyists who buy votes and help create laws. There’s plenty of greed and corruption on both sides and we need each other for balance.
Hillary’s cozying up to Scaife is paying dividends, as columns appear in his paper about scary black men Obama and Wright.
I know this is GD but I have to say it. That guys a jerk!
If the statistics he quotes are accurate then they do need to be discussed but I’m thinking Obama and Wright are probably both aware of them. If he had bothered to listen to more of the sermons than the sound bytes provided by Fox he’d realize that Wright wasn’t preaching “hate and blame whitey” By taking them out of context and venting isn’t he on the same road he accuses Wright and Obama of traveling?
I find the whole “blame someone else” thing that he refers to an interesting and frustrating attitude that is far too prevalent in our society among lot’s of groups. It might be a topic for another thread. Personal responsibility or blaming someone else.
Is he really saying that by “preaching ‘hate whitey’”, that it makes black people kill each other so the white man doesn’t oppress them? That doesn’t make any sense to me.
I support Obama. Just contributed. I’ll let you know if I have dinner with him.
Considering the Wright controversy a couple of my conservative friends pointed out that Obama suggested Imus be let go rather than just fined or suspended. Isn’t it a bit hypocritical to explain that Wright’s career and his worth as a person is much more than those unfortunate sound clips without extending that same understanding to Imus?
I still support him but I have to say yes, it is hypocritical. What say you?
Can you link to a cite for the Imus stuff? Don’t get me wrong, I like the I-Man usually. But he can get…{{Cough - Nappy Headed - Cough}} sort of belligerant at times as well. I need to see it in context to comment.
Good point. I think his larger point that preaching anger and resentment someone adds to the problem of crime and violence among the black population. He evidently doesn’t need any evidence to connect the two.
What surprises me is how many people see Wright’s comments as anger against white people in general rather than anger against the prejudice that clearly did exist and still exists to a lessor extent.
I’d love somebody to find Wrights sermons preaching personal responsibility. In one of the very sermons that a one clip was taken from he says it’s a time for personal examination to see if we are living up to our commitment to God in making the world a better place for our families and our society. That doesn’t sound like “blame whitey” to me.
Obama calls for Imus to be fired
This is the first time I’ve actually watched the comment and the apology. I just read about it before. It was a really bad joke but it was a joke with no malicious intent which he explains.
Rasmussen sez Clinton’s lead is down to 5% in PA. 47%-42%.
Survey USA also says her lead is slipping, down to 53%-41%. Still a 12% difference, but it’s down from a 19% difference before (I don’t know when before was).
This is a year old Cosmosdan right? Imus was fired. Is there any new info on this?
I think it’s fair to bring up stuff from a year ago.
Wright’s situation isn’t exactly the same, as he was preparing to retire anyway when his remarks were made.
Besides, Wright was cut loose from the already-tenuous connection with Obama’s campaign. I don’t think Obama would demand that Imus no longer speak to his family for making that nappy-headed remark, and so demands that Obama no longer speaks to Wright for his remarks are going overboard, IMO. Professional ties were cut in both instances. I don’t see hypocrisy there.
SUSA’s previous PA poll was 3 weeks earlier. Rasmussen’s was 1 week previous to their latest.
I’d put much more faith in SUSA than Rasmussen. SUSA’s either the best or close to it with respect to political polling; Rasmussen’s more in the middle of the pack.
But only 12 points down is great. Obama doesn’t need to win PA; he just needs to avert a landslide loss. He’s in good shape.
Minor shit-headery from Mrs. Clinton:
Cite. (4/1/08)
Actually, you pompous windbag, here’s what Obama actually said:
Cite. (3/29/08)
Obama has said nothing resembling that he is “getting tired of [the campaign].”
You’re right about his supporters calling on you to quit, though, and I’m one of them. You can’t win. Your malinformed, quixotic attempts to continue aren’t doing you any favors, and won’t help the Democrats win in November. Go away.
And the gratuitous suck-up to Philadelphia inherent in the Rocky Balboa blurb is kind of pathetic.
Especially since Rocky actually lost to Apollo Creed in the movie she’s referencing.
Actually. it was a split decision. Creed got to retain the title, though.
Someone posted, and I bet it’s our own dear Shayna - something about Clinton’s Campaign is run on public perception that she can still win - which if you ask just about any political strategist is a canard.
Those polls really say the same thing. Survey USA’s methodology includes pressing the respondent for an answer, i.e. discouraging “not sure/no opinion/haven’t decided yet”. Their full results for this survey were:
Clinton 53
Obama 41
Other 4
Undecided 2
Whereas Rasmussen’s results were:
Clinton 47
Obama 42
Not Sure 11
Note how close Obama’s results are between the two surveys.
So it looks to me that, given the usual caveats about MOE, Rasmussen is probably closer to where the race really stands, but Survey USA reflects the fact that leaners or undecideds are (right now) breaking for HRC, reflecting her higher name recognition.
For more information on this, I refer you to this blog post. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to see where he addresses this difference between the two pollsters.
You just know that Hillary is desperately hoping for some scandal like this to involve Obama.
