Ask and the gods of redditors will answer. Perez leads with 104 places gained. Stroll is second with 58. Verstappen comes third with 42. Guanyu with 39. Sargeant (!) with 33. I’d reckon Sargeant’s position increase came from qualifying last all the time and having cars ahead crash or die. ---

Speaking of Perez, he just got rated #20 out of 22 drivers for the season despite coming in 2nd in the standings by Race fans. Brutal. So I’m still a noob when it comes to f1, so excuse my naivity for this question: Since Red Bull “owns” Aplha Tauri, what is stopping RB from giving AT all of the technology from their 2023 car for the 2024 season? If AT was racing in the same cars as RB, I’m sure they would move up a couple spots in the Constructors. MtM ---

F1 regulations limit the amount of technology and data that can be shared between teams, even if they’re owned by the same entity. That’s BIG no-no territory, especially since the pink Mercedes days of Racing Point. Though I could be wrong. ---

There are strict limits on which parts teams can share. Off the top of my head it’s gearboxes, engines, motor generator units, brake ducts and certain suspension components. The FIA has access to all designs so it knows when other parts are being shared. ---

Ohhh just relized less than a month until the new season of Drive To Survive! And Bahrain starts Feb 29th! Time flies when you’ve enabled DRS! Apparantly the first 2 races (Bahrain and Saudi Arabia) are on Saturdays (local time) because of Ramadan. MtM ---

Well, it’s been rumored for years. Didn’t think I’d ever see it actually happen. Let’s see how this goes… Driving for The Scuderia will be the about the last jewel left to add to his crown. I’m sure Max will end up over there someday also. ---

I saw the reports this morning and didn’t believe them, but Ferrari just tweeted a press release. I guess now we know what Plan C was. I am not happy. I look awful in red. ---

I didn’t realize Hamilton had raced with Vasseur before, but apparently he did in F3 and GP2. So I can see that reunion being a factor in his decision. Also, I assume a garbage truck full of money is involved. ---

Last I checked, Mercedes were already backing up Brinks trucks to Hamilton’s house. Estimates put him at the second-highest paid driver, not far behind Verstappen. I assume it’s legacy-driven, because Scuderia Ferrari. While Ferrari looks like it’s had the second-fastest car in these regulations, Hamilton will only get one season in it before reg changes reset everything again. Tough to be Carlos Sainz right now. Hard not to be upset, knowing your employer is letting you go almost a year in advance for reasons almost entirely out of your control. But hard to not understand, as well, because it’s Lewis fuckin’ Hamilton. But silly season kicked off EARLY this year. It was kind of expected to be pretty boring, outside of the second Red Bull seat, and MAYBE Sainz at Ferrari. It’s been prophesied that Ricciardo would return to Red Bull in glory and honor. But Sainz didn’t really have a place to move up to, besides RB, and his father and Verstappen’s notoriously hate each other. And not really anyone better to replace him with, so it looked like Ferrari would probably stand pat. Maybe some shuffling in the lower teams, nothing crazy. There’s just no big-name juniors to shake things up. Now there’s an unexpected seat open at a frontrunning team, and Checo, Alonso, and Sainz are free for it. And all of Williams, Alpine, Haas, Stake (wtf), and Red Bull 2. Next year’s Drive to Survive might be worth watching, even with Steiner no longer at Haas. ---

Apparently Hamilton will be more like $100m a year. That almost doubles his previous contract, and 50% more than Verstappen. I don’t know how Ferrari can afford it. /s FOM just rejected Andretti because they’d dilute the profit too much. ---

Ferrari’s market cap apparently jumped something like 6% based on the Hamilton signing. Driver salaries are exempt from the cost cap so it’s not a problem from a competitive perspective. ---
