I’m debating whether to cut my cable and instead of watching F1 on broadcast TV (via ESPN/ABC here in the States), which I usually DVR and watch a day or two later, signing up for one of F1’s streaming packages. Have you made that switch or compared the two F1 packages, and can you offer some advice? Is the premium package worth $85/year over the $30/year standard package? (I’ll probably start the free one-week trial this week, but I welcome any of your thoughts.) Thanks. ---

I don’t have cable, so I’ve done the F1 TV subscription. Assuming we’re looking at the same thing, the $85 version gives you the races and sessions live, while the $30 version only gives you replays after the fact, but does give you live access to timing features. The $30 version also does not give you access to support series, if you enjoy F2/F3/Porsche. I use the premium, even though I watch half the races as replays or at least delayed. ETA: I was operating from a base of F1 TPs all being raging assholes. The recent investigation was whether Horner was even more of a twatwaffle than the rest of his colleagues. And apparently the jury’s still out, as someone has sent a link to a Google Drive full of incriminating “evidence”. There’s been no definitive reports of authenticity yet, so it seems advisable to take all of it with a grain of salt. ---

I use the $85 version too. I like the option of watching live and I like the onboard cameras. I use Multiviewer ([https://multiviewer.app/](https://multiviewer.app/)) to watch the race and multiple onboards simultaneously. If you can afford the extra $55 I think it’s well worth it. F1TV is probably the best deal in sports streaming packages. ---

Last season they really wore out their tires faster than other teams, and would drop down the standings late in races. Michael Andretti has been trying to get a team started, pairing up with Cadillac, but I read that the other teams voted not to allow a license for his team to enter the sport. That’s rather disappointing. ---

One more question about the streaming. With the premium package can I watch replays right away, or do I have to wait 2 days like the $30 package? I’m really annoyed that Andretti has been blocked from the series. He had everything the series could have wanted, including a deep-pocketed sponsor/manufacturer who could have even afforded the huge additional payment to all the other teams. ---

It may not be immediately, but it’s in less than an hour. There’s generally a highlight reel and “Race in 30 Minutes” in about that time as well. Definitely not 2 days. Add me to the frustrated group about Andretti. I know it seems America-centric, but it does feel like F1 wants the American attention/audience/money, but doesn’t want Americans do have a team to cheer for. The only thing American about Haas is Gene Haas. Last I checked, their design team is in the same complex as Ferrari’s, they buy as many parts as legally possible from Ferrari, and Dallara builds their car. The thing that actually upsets me is that FOM tried to convince Cadillac to join as an engine manufacturer behind Andretti’s back. That’s some bullshit. ---

I can do nothing but concur. I’ll agree that Sainz had a hell of a drive, though. And Leclerc put in a good show despite the brake issues. Ferrari might have a pretty good car this year. ---

Not that they necessarily would, but I wonder if The Powers That Be in Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas could apply any pressure the next time they’re hosting deals are up for negotiation. Would they have any leverage, or would F1 just say “there are a dozen other cities that would love to take your place on the schedule”? ---

Circuit of the Americas hosted an Indycar race, so they have a connection to Andretti already. If they have any influence with F1, they might use it to encourage them to grant Andretti a license. Is Andretti’s bid completely dead, or could it be reconsidered for future seasons? ---
