Hey, so I was under the impression that my son would earn V-bucks by playing the game a lot(he does!) and that if he was conservative with purchases, he would have enough to renew his battle pass when the times comes.
Well, the time came today and my son told me he has never earned V-bucks playing the game.
Were we just wrong?
I was under the same impression that you should be able to earn the next Battle Pass effectively free by leveling up the current paid pass and being conservative with your spending. As long as you kept some V-Bucks in reserve, you should only have to pay for a Battle Pass once. Here’s a March 2022 article that back that up:
If you do spend the money on a Battle Pass – bear with us – you can also earn free V-Bucks as you fight your way through the game’s progression system. While they might not technically be free, if you progress far enough in a season, you could well have hoovered up enough of the premium currency to get the future season’s pass free, and then some. That’s provided you don’t blow it all on a tasty legendary skin before the current season ends.
Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 provides 1500 V-Bucks if you level it up completely, which nets you the 950 V-Bucks it cost to buy the Battle Pass in the first place, plus an extra 550 V-Bucks. If you don’t spend any V-Bucks earned during a season, you only need to level up to Battle Pass rank 68.
Did he go into the battle pass rewards menu and convert his stars to rewards, focusing on picking v-bucks when possible?
I asked him. His response was that there was no way stars would equal the 950 V-bucks you need for the battlepass, even if you only go for V-bucks.
He plays daily. Is my son right or is he wrong about that? He estimated about 500 V-bucks might come to him via stars over a 3-month period(the length of the seasons).
What’s the Straight Dope(trademark) on this?
Has he been trying to accomplish missions and such to get XP and stars? Until the last couple of seasons when I’ve had too much to do I’ve made over 950 every season. I haven’t been playing daily in any of them, though I suspect if I averaged it out it would be a couple of rounds per day.
I’ve been playing since season 8, or possibly a season or two before that, though I think that’s the first I got the battle pass for, and I’ve banked 3200 V-bucks in addition to the 950 for each of the many battle passes for seasons 9 through the previous one. (Not bothering with the battle pass for this one, I only played like 10 matches for the previous season.)
