I agree with you, **Cliffy** , but i didn’t see anyone characterize it that way in this thread.

They used that Buffalo Springfield anti-war song ‘For What It’s Worth’ in a commercial a few years ago, I was similarly repulsed.

> I swear they played this song all the time during the elections a few years ago and I use to think how it applied to both candidates.

I remember reading on how it applied to the _three_ main candidates before Super Tuesday primaries - Gore as senator’s son, Bush as millionaire’s son and McCain as military son.

I think they also used the anti-consumerist Janis Joplin “Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz” song to sell their cars.

Oh, and, John Lennon’s “Revolution” to sell Nikes.

I often find myself muttering at the TV screen.

I love it when the song “American Woman” is used to glorify American Women.

(And the Beatles were money hungry whores, so Revolution selling Nikes doesn’t bothers me too bad!:))

I especially like this bit:

> Zaentz heard more venom than most folks, and he filed a multi-million dollar slander suit against Fogerty. For good measure, he sued Fogerty for copyright infringement, saying that “The Old Man Down the Road” borrowed integral parts of the CCR song “Run Through the Jungle.”
>
> Fogerty, of course, wrote both songs. Thing is, Zaentz holds the publishing rights to “Run Through the Jungle,” (and every other CCR song) and so he claimed that Fogerty had no right to write a song that sounded anything like any of the CCR songs that Fogerty wrote. It’s a tricky argument. There’s a certain cold logic to it. But, as the court eventually ruled, Zaentz was just whining in the wind. Fogerty won both cases."

So basically, Fogerty got sued for sounding too much like himself.

My wife hated a Kodak commercial advertising their film products that used the song “More Precious than Gold” by the Christian vocal group Acappella. The “They are more precious than gold” chorus was juxtaposed with pictures of family events.

The song was based on Psalm 19 and refers to the laws of the Lord being more precious than gold. Not that I think she objects to the idea that a picture of your loved ones is precious, but I think she objected to the song being used out of context.

She was also disappointed that Acappella sold out.
