And the grapes on offer here - so sour!
I wonder, if when a noob starts to stray off the path, is there some sort of private talking to that they get from the mods? Something along the lines of “ya might wanna read the rules and learn the culture or you’ll find yourself on the outside looking in” Or does the hammer swing down out of the mist and ban without warning?
The mods here literally never ban without warning - if nothing else, there is a clear set of board rules posted. In this case what happened is a newbie came in, started posting annoying non-responsive discussions, and then announced clearly that they were going to violate a major board rule. There’s really no point in trying to retain a member like that, they aren’t contributing anything useful and are openly defying the rules they agreed to to be able to post.
Meh. He was abrasive but he engaged in actual discussion which is more than I can say for the handful of “usual suspect” trolls who have been shitting up every thread they post in for years. But whereas this guy was a genuine newbie who made a dumb mistake and got himself banned, inducted members of the Troll Brigade slide their slimy appendages right up to the line, then laugh as legitimate posters without as much rule mastery get warned trying to argue with them.
Did fortyv deserve his banning? Probably. Is it gonna do a whole lot to improve this place? Hell, no. Are the trolls who actually shit up the place gonna get banned? I guess we will see but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
OTOH if you just make the tiniest effort to appear genuine you can JAQ off all over tbe board for years, entirely free from consequence.
I’m glad we can find the trolls who proudly announce “I am trolling”. Now can we do something about the ones who are slightly more subtle?
Please let him know that the user name “Dunning_Kruger” is available and eagerly awaiting his return.

Since the issue was basically resolved back in October, probably best to just close this thread.
