The thing I noticed while watching the videos of the ambush was how quickly all the “good men with guns” ran like the no-dicked cowards they are, while the cops all ran towards the gunfire. So much for the NRA’s assertions that all the world needs is more people with guns to stop gun violence.

Where is this overwhelming evidence of which you speak? Baton Rogue? That video is inconclusive - certainly not overwhelming. Minnesota? The video didn’t start until after the shooting. Are there unwarranted killings by the police? Certainly and those cops need to be punished. Is it an out of control epidemic? No way.

This is the Pit and, I believe, no cites are required but I’ll give some anyway. In an admittedly short term study (Jan-Aug 2015), StreetCred Software looked at police killings of unarmed people nation-wide by police. There were 125 such incidents that they could find. Here are some stats form that study. (Link to study at bottom)

Here is a more recent study, conducted by university researchers, from April of this year, with a much larger sample: 990 police shootings, 93 involving people who were unarmed.

Study finds police fatally shoot unarmed black men at disproportionate rates

In 2015, The Post documented 990 fatal shootings by police, 93 of which involved people who were unarmed. Black men accounted for about 40 percent of the unarmed people fatally shot by police and, when adjusted by population, were seven times as likely as unarmed white men to die from police gunfire, The Post found.

Researchers, who used data collected by The Post, found that when other factors are considered, the racial disparity persists, but it is lower — twice the rate for unarmed black men compared with unarmed white men. Researchers adjusted for the age of the person shot, whether the person suffered from mental illness, whether the person was attacking a police officer and for the crime rate in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.

“The only thing that was significant in predicting whether someone shot and killed by police was unarmed was whether or not they were black,” said Justin Nix, a criminal justice researcher at the University of Louisville and one of the report’s authors. “Crime variables did not matter in terms of predicting whether the person killed was unarmed.”

And the argument that black neighbourhoods are more dangerous, so it’s reasonable for police to be on alert?

In the study, researchers wrote that their analysis of the 990 fatal shootings in 2015 “suggests the police exhibit shooter bias by falsely perceiving blacks to be a greater threat than non-blacks to their safety.”

Black individuals shot and killed by police were less likely to have been attacking police officers than the white individuals fatally shot by police, the study found.

What the hell’s wrong with you? You act as though there isn’t video of the entire arrest and murder from two different angles. There’s at least one eye witness whose story closely matches the events on video. Anyone who takes the time to watch the videos and read the store owner’s statements has plenty of evidence to make a decision on what happened.

I’m a little surprised that nobody’s pointed out that Johnson was particularly poor at targeting white cops; he shot 7 Hispanic cops, one black cop, one black woman, and 5 white cops, with one injured person still unidentified.
