Sorry it took me a couple days to get back to this, TripleTee, life got in my way.
I haven’t kept track of my scores in a log or anything, but more than once, after not being able to get gold in a race over the course of weeks without Dramamine, I’d get that elusive gold playing while on it. I’m certainly open to the possibility of it being confirmation bias (I think that’s the term I’m looking for - “the van is always on the corner” effect), or due to my finally learning to twitch just right at just the right time, but it seems unlikely to me. When I have some free time again to get in some serious gaming, I’ll try keeping a log and see what the results are.
Your theory about it possibly be related to inner ear problems is interesting - when I was a lad I often had earaches, and am genetically prone to issues with the inner ear. Maybe that’s what causes the motion sickness, instead of it being vision-adjustment related.
I’m still slogging my way through F.E.A.R. Between the settings changes and possibly building up a tolerance, I can now play for at least an hour before I have to quit. It’s a risk to push it further though, as it seems that there isn’t much warning telling me that I’ve played too long. If I cross the line, I end up pretty miserable. I haven’t tried the Dramamine yet. I keep forgetting to pick some up.
Out of curiousity, for those that have played F.E.A.R., if I told you that:
Bishop (a hostage you saved) was assassinated in a helicopter.
Could you tell me about how far into the game that is?
I just experienced this this past weekend playing Bioshock. I don’t normally play FPS games (I prefer RPGs like WoW) but I was lured in by the gorgeous graphics, the Ayn Rand-inspired city, and the good reviews, so I bought the XBox 360 version to play on my new TV.
I think I lasted about 45 minutes before my head started feeling funny and I started to get queasy. I wonder if it might be my newness to the game (the way the controls work I kept feeling like a pigeon, walking along and bobbing my head up and down), the overall “darkness” of it, and the fact that it’s very suspenseful so I was on edge the whole time waiting for something to jump me. In any case, I felt bad for a couple of hours after I stopped playing. If I can’t figure out a way to fix the problem, I’m afraid I’ll have to quit playing the game, and that bums me out (I want to see the rest of those beautiful graphics!)
Read through the tips that have been offered in this thread. First thing you should go through the options and see if you can turn off the head bob. Good luck! I know the feeling.
