Frank Perdue died a very rich and very old man. The MSNBC obit mentioned his toughness and thrift, and that certainly was appropriate. Had he been less tough and thrifty when dealing with his employees, my father might have died later (though just as poor) than he did; Perdue would have lasted just as long and been minutely less rich. Perdue made his money collecting the money from an industry that requires a lot of poverty to work profitably. Good for him. May his heirs someday shovel the same tons of sawdust and rotting carcasses, in the same 100 degree heat, that made their fortune possible. ---

Show me exactly where. Frank Perdue was not evil. He was like most of us, willing to take what he could get and smart enough to make the most of what he had. Some of the things he had that he could get something from, unfortunately, were people. ---

IIRC, Frank Perdue early one morning was going somewhere, driving while talking into a recorder, while doing his paperwork. He rear-ended another car and killed a mother and child. He had to surrender his license after that. I bet it does not make the obits. ---
