Both Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel gave him a lot of work on their respective late-night shows; Fred must have done a dozen or more appearances on Kimmel in the year before the “at home” versions of the shows started. He was always reliably funny. His voice will always be in my head whenever likable-dumb-guys come to mind—he was a master at that specialty. ---
