# Fred Willard now the late Fred Willard.

I never watched that one, despite liking Stephen Merchant for his appearance in my beloved _Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace_. (And of course his connection to _The Office_.)

Makes you wonder if some top exec at HBO who liked British-flavoured entertainment, may have left the company around 2013-14…  
Back on Fred: NBC has listed at 10pm tonight, a 1978 episode of SNL hosted by him, with musical guest Devo. Sounds pretty good!

In his last credit, the just-released [_Space Force_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Force_(TV_series)) on Netflix, he plays Steve Carell’s father in three episodes.

He gets a dedication in the first episode, “Launch.”

Of course Fred had been one of the stars of the 1978 TV pilot of the same name. He’d appeared on Kimmel’s show after Trump announced his own Space Force, in a parody of the 1978 project.
