# free classics online?

It occured to me that music that is in the public domain and that is performed by either somebody(-bodies) willing to give up their rights to it or that has no right to it (expired, or govt band?), could be freely distributed. Is this right? This could amount to a huge amount of music, even if just one decent pianist with a good recording system.
Are there places on the net doing this?
