Free Dress Shirts for Job Interviews to Fight Unemployment

It’s obviously a publicity stunt on the part of the shirt company. Can’t hurt to try I guess.

This is one of the few ways that I’ll help a religious organization. My husband occasionally has to buy a suit, for a wedding or funeral. We both recognize that he’ll never wear it again before it “shrinks” or goes out of style. So I trot it over to a local church which offers an interview closet for people who want to interview well, but don’t have the funds to dress that well.

Occasionally I’ll buy new panties, keep them in the package, and give them to the same church. The volunteers are always really glad to see these, as nobody wants used undies. I don’t buy top of the line, just stuff like Hanes or Just My Size.

As for the original subject…I think that it would not be the best use of stimulus money. If the company offered the shirts up for free, that would be nice. As it is, though, they just look like they’re trying to get a slice of the stimulus pie.

There’s an organization in Indianapolis called “Dress for Success” that does this exact thing. It’s an absolutely wonderful outfit.

And a good organization too.

Note that Dress for Success is not unique to Indianapolis. They have affiliates throughout the US, as well as in Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the Netherlands. And also note that the focus is on women only, although they go beyond simply providing a business suit.

I didn’t know they were outside Indy - thanks for the info. One of our grantees is a small business enterpreneur mentoring organization (wow, that’s a mouthful), and they have nothing but high praises for Dress for Success. Such a crucial service for many people.
