# Free Land

I was wondering. Can I go down to Antarctica and claim some land for myself. I mean does anyone own it. Plus if they do whos going to stop me. I don’t think any police or other sorts of law enforcement have juristiction so what the deAl.

[Here](http://www.terraquest.com/va/history/treaty.html) is some history on and a description of the treaty that governs international cooperation regarding Antarctica. You couldn’t proclaim a new sovereign nation, but if you could figure out how to survive, you could probably hang out down there for quite a while before anyone notices you.
