You can now download and play The Sims 2 with all its DLC for free. You will need to download and use the Electronic Arts Origin client for it. Simply [download and install](https://www.origin.com/en-us/download) the client, create an account if you don’t have one, and [redeem game code](http://i.imgur.com/uCkDxWD.jpg) I-LOVE-THE-SIMS This will activate Sims 2: Ultimate on your Origins account which you can then download and play. According to the [EA webpage](http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-get-the-sims-2-ultimate-collection/), you have until July 31 to claim the game. That sure is a lot of stuff. How big is the download? And how well does the game play with everything loaded? ---

I haven’t downloaded it but, from what I read, it’s around 12.5 gigs. Also, for anyone unfamiliar, once you’ve claimed it onto your account, it’s yours forever so you don’t need to download it immediately or could uninstall it and download it again later. ---

Are the system requirements for The Sims 2 the same as the system requirements for the Origin platform? I know it is an older game, but I have an older computer and I need to know if it can run the game. I think it could, but I want to be sure. ---

Wow. That’s a good deal. I used to play Sims 2 for an embarrassing long amount of time many years ago. I guess it’s to hype Sims 4 which comes out soon. ---

Electronic Arts recently said that anyone who owned a boxed retail copy of Sim 2 could get it activated on Origin. This led to tons of people tying up the customer service lines trying to get their copies activated with old or missing CD keys, etc. I think that EA figured that the promotional value of just giving it away to everyone was a better bet than the customer service cost of walking a million people through reading a half-scratched off CD key from 2004. ---

It’s also part of getting people thinking about the Sims before Sims 4 comes out. But I think it will backfire, due to how the Sims 4 is going to be even more limited in features than even the original Sims 2. Having everything in Sims 2 is going to appeal to a lot of people. ---

Note, you don’t need the client just to REDEEM the code. I just redeemed it on [origin.com](http://origin.com) by logging in and going to My Account. Useful if you’re not able to get to a Windows machine for a few days (I’m moving). ---

Personally, I do not understand the appeal of The Sims. I bought the first game and played it about 30 minutes before uninstalling. However, I am a fan of free so I downloaded the game and will give it the old college try. ---

I’ve been playing this heaps. I liked the first one but held off buying the sequels because I was hoping to find a complete version for cheap. I tell myself I’m playing it like a strategy game but there’s definitely an aspect of playing house. So far it’s mostly houses without floors or paint and a layout designed strictly for efficiency, but playing house nonetheless. ---
