Free/very cheap hobbies you have.

The library is a great place! I have checked out several cookbooks and have become a pretty good chef, at least that’s what my family tells me. And my library allows checkout of recent magazines so I can stay up on current events for free!! I’ve also found books at the library to help with simple and cheap home improvement projects that keep us busy.

Another hobby I’ve loved since I was a kid is coloring books. I get a couple cheap (from ebay of course) “grown up” coloring books from MindAware, some felt tip markers and I am set. It’s very relaxing to fill in all those empty spaces!

I’m also a bird and wildlife watcher. I can sit at the window for hours and watch the birds at the feeder and the birdbath. And its always entertaining to watch the neighborhood cats stalk the squirrels. (I shoo them away if it looks like the cats are after the birds!)

I dearly love to crochet and do needlepoint, but my hands and eyes can’t take the stress anymore. I just gave away a huge bag of yarn and crochet hooks last week on freecycle! :frowning:

I’ll put in a vote for juggling. If you want fancy props you can spend a reasonable amount for them, but they are strictly optional.

I find birdwatching only moderately cheap. In addition to optics, there’s the cost of transportation to worthwhile places (even if only by automobile). You can of course simply check out birds in the places you otherwise visit, but it gets hard to resist the lure of varied habitats.

And while bicycling can perhaps be cheap, it’s challenging to find even a semi-serious practitioner who treats it that way.

I’ve been playing $1 sit-and-go tournaments on PokerStars for dozens of hours without completely losing my $25 deposit (yet). Very addicting and fun.
