I took a quick poll of my upper middle-class, white-collar office coworkers. I asked what it means to call someone ghetto. They all basically said it means poor and uneducated. I asked what it meant to _look_ ghetto, and they mostly all said it means to look dirty, low-class, and unkempt. Not a single person mentioned race. Now I’m not saying that the posters didn’t have some anti-Black in them, but it’s pretty retarded to write an article on it and not quote at least one blatant racist comment, though the monkey thing I guess counts. And I can’t for the life of me parse what the “representin my peeps” person was saying. ---

Besides, why would anyone refer to Obama and his family as ghetto in the unkempt way? The jokes that people make about him are that he’s super elitist, not that he’s sloppy in the least. If the Obamas are known to be well-heeled and are extremely wealthy, then what else did that commenter mean?
