I will never ever again eat Pineapple from a Tin Can…EVER. I have just eaten a whole fresh Pineapple and it was the most satisfying thing I have done food-wise in the last couple of years at least. My God it was so tasty and juicy. I now want to try a whole host of fresh fruits, having already had the chance to sample such things as Apples, Oranges (and some of the other Orange fruits like Mandarins), Plums, Peaches, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Bananas, Kiwis, Tomatos, Grapes and whatnot. Please recommend me something to rival the New Best Fresh Fruit In The World TM “The Pineapple” ---

Fresh mango’s. (also sp Mangga) You have to get 'm at the exact 5 minutes between being unripe and being rotten, but it is well worth the wait. ---

My father, king of useless gadgets, just bought a Pineapple Slicer. I foresee a lot of pineapple in our future. A recommendation? Have you ever tried Sharon Fruit? ---

**Fran** , is it the Vacu-vin white plastic slicer? Two pieces, spiral slicer at the bottom, removable T handle at the top? No alarms? If so, it does a wonderful job, leaving a cup perfect for Pina Fria, pineapple flesh, ice, rum, and pineapple juice in a blender, pour into cup left by shell of pineapple, garnish with a pineapple wedge surrounded by two marischino cherries, enjoy. ---

It is indeed the slicer you describe. With no alarms. I was quite taken with the husk of pineapple that was left behind. I did think of the alcoholic beverage container potential. I might be left feeling a bit seventies kitsch though. ---

For my wedding reception, the one food I absolutely insisted the caterers provide was fresh pineapple. That was it. They got to decide everything else. ---

My bf and I had been going out a little more than a month when Xmas rolled around. Very, very tricky time for exchanging presents. I gave him a squirrel-proof birdfeeder and some homemade cookies; he gave me a wireless mouse, a houseplant, and… a fresh pineapple that he picked up impulsively in the grocery store (mostly because of the flamingo lights I had up for Xmas and the hula gal and hula guy in the back window of my car). I went absolutely apeshit over this. Valentines rolls around – we didn’t even discuss whether to exchange gifts, it’s kind of a bogus holiday to me, so I didn’t care. I, again, made him some cookies – and he, again, got me a pineapple. They’re playing our fruit. ---

Ladies and gentlemen in the internet world, there is fresh pineapple, and there is Del Monte Gold[sup]TM[/sup]. Do not confuse the two. The normal pineapple (Champaka) is acidic and makes you pucker. Pale yellow to whitish color. The Del Monte Gold[sup]TM[/sup] is ten times better than the Champaka. I had a similar epiphany with this new strain of Del Monte pineapple. I made myself terribly sick, but I want another one. They’re much sweeter than a regular pineapple, but definitely more acidic, too. Fantastic, but the juice does awful things to carbon steel. ---
