Today is a no-work day; not a day off, just a no work will be accomplished day. Not even a little bit. Why? I’ve discovered the [Live cams](https://explore.org/livecams) of brown bears gorging on very fresh salmon at Brooks Falls on Katmai National Park in Alaska. P. S. They have other live cams, too ---

I kind of want to see zombie bears. This makes me a little nostalgic for my old workplace. Pre-pandemic, the school secretary and I were together in a huge space. When the district bought new Promethean boards (think high-tech projector), one of the old models came to rest in the office and she hooked her laptop to it because she liked to have a TV on while she worked. We needed programming that was middle-school appropriate and not too distracting for me, so she would put it on various zoo and wildlife camera feeds. We watched bears all one fall. Maybe this will motivate me to get a feed going on my TV while I do housework! ---

I checked out the live cam and I saw two bears mating, right in the water where they were feeding! I guess it didn’t occur to me that to have baby bears in the spring that they would need to breed now while the food supply was going strong. That part of the feed was probably not safe for work. ---

I just checked it out and within about 20 seconds saw a bear taking a big ol’ dump in the river. Dude, you’re eating out of there! I thought even animals understood that you don’t crap where you eat. He was clearly _ **not** _ smarter than the average bear 🙄 ---

I suppose a couple of those bears might have dies and been re-animated in just 4 years but most those bears are probably still alive. All the salmon in that video that weren’t consumed by the bears would have been dead soon afterwards and could have become zombies by now were there some mechanism re-animating dead salmon. Personally I’m not in favor of re-animating any animals. The documentary Pet Sematary details the problems that arise. ---

I’m surprised that this and Fat Bear Week are popular, considering that a grizzly ate [two Canadians](https://www.npr.org/2023/10/02/1203036630/bear-attack-couple-dies-canada-banff) last week, not to mention their dog. ---

Meanwhile, the narrator, in a plummy British accent, is saying “…the male mounts the female again and again while she is in heat…” Such a range of things going through my mind then. First and foremost, excruciating embarrassment, watching that with my mom. No less for her, too, of course-- she was clearly mortified but didn’t want to immediately change the channel again, admitting defeat. And, in the back of my kid mind, part of me also saw the humor in it-- I may not have been familiar yet with the exact saying “be careful what you wish for”, but at that moment I sure understood the concept-- mom wanted us to watch something more educational, and she definitely got her wish.
