A pressed short sleeve white or blue button down shirt with the right tie, maybe even a hand tied silk bowtie, can be a great look if you are in decent shape. If you are really thin or fat not so much, but if you have normal to athletic build there all kinds of way to make that combo rock. ---

I’m not sure when you would ever have to wear a tie when you didn’t have to wear a jacket. For me, it’s either “suit and tie” (court) or Jeans and T-shirt (not court). There are a few occasions I have to (not really “have to” but am more comfortable) wearing a nicer shirt with my jeans, (or heaven forbid, khakis) but in those circumstances I don’t see the need for a tie. Nevertheless, I don’t care what other people wear and I wouldn’t tell someone not to do it. I don’t think it’s “unacceptable.” ---

The ties are functional - they show what school the kid goes to (there are three secondary schools on our quite small road and a dozen others that the neighbourhood kids might go to), and within the school my daughter’s tie shows what year she’s in. They wear them quite loosely so they’re not counteracting the cooling effect of short sleeves either. ---
