Not exclusively focused on dogs and cats, but Patricia Highsmith’s The Animal-Lover’s Book of Beastly Murder is probably a one-of-a-kind. The formula is that there’s an animal (an aged dog bereaving the death of his former owner, a single young woman’s protective housecat, a truffle-hunting French pig, a rat in Venice, etc.) that’s unhappy, in jeopardy or pissed off for some good reason (the point of view is that of the animal, and reflects its species’ mentality)… and rectifies its plight with a well-chosen act of violence against the offending Homo sapiens.

Just in case you wanted a bit of something sour to go with all the sweet.
