The FBI is just using the same tactics that it has been using since its inception. They are a limited agency, with probably a couple thousand agents. Conversely, the public is FAR more spread out. That’s 280 million pairs of eyes and ears out there, looking, listening, observing.
It would be sheer idiocy to not tap into that resource. It is common sense. Or would you rather that the FBI be so powerful and widespread that they violate every iota of privacy that you have?
On the FBI asking for the public’s help, it is NOT a new thing. They did the same for many years (notably back in the Cold-War era, when they wanted suspected communists to be reported. the only reason I know this is from reading info on dear ElRon and the people he had ‘reported’ to the fibbies as commies.) I could be wrong on the timeframe, if so forgive me as I wasn’t alive at the time.

It’s pretty lame as a rant, (hence the thinking impaired version) but, as it spiraled out of control (as I got more pissed off) it didn’t have a likely home.
