> My “way out there” theory is that this show will somehow tie in with Lost. The head FBI guy in Fringe is the “Oceanic lawyer” who visits Hurley in the mental hospital and also works with Naomi to assemble the team that lands on the island. Investigation of paranormal activity like reanimation, astral projection, etc? Sounds like Lost to me. It would have been awesome if the plane at the beginning of Fringe had been an Oceanic jet.

Ha! I was sort of thinking the same thing. That, or J.J. Abrams really does have only one idea, and the rest is details.

Ominous big corporation that’s somehow controlling events beyond our ken? check.
Wisecracking misogynist bad boy? check.
Crazy doctor who talks to himself but is really a genius? check.
Plucky heroine with bad choices in men? check.
“Scientific” research into the paranormal? check.
Plane disaster in the opening episode? check.
Sympathetic characters in institutions? check.
More father issues than Oedipus? check.

Saw the pilot last night and thought it really, really dragged.

Watched the second episode earlier today and it was better, but the feeling that this is another take on the X-Files wasn’t helped by the baddie of the episode reminding me of Eugene Tooms.

I’ll give it another go next week, but it’s not gripping me at the mo.

I had watched the pilot previously but kept it on my DVR because a friend was interested in it. About halfway through it (when FES was taken back to his old lab and was reeling off the list of things he needed) she got up to go to the bathroom and I automatically hit the pause button. As the bathroom door was closing she called out, “don’t bother pausing it”. When she came back and sat down she told me that as far as she was concerned we can stop watching (she knew I had already seen it) it because she had no interest in any of the characters, which is her criteria for whether or not she watches most shows.

I haven’t seen this week’s episode yet; after I do I’ll decide if I want to give it one more chance.

One amusing part: when the FES is riding in the back of the FBI car and says “Oh my! I’ve peed my pants!”

Do you lose bladder control in solitary?
And in the beginning I wasn’t sure if the black guy was going to be a Dick With a Purpose or just a Dick. Nope, he was just a Dick. I hate pointlessly mean and rude characters that force you to side with the hero(ine) because they’re dicks.

Nothing here for me. Gimme back New Amsterdam.
