From 'hot' to 'not' over the course of the show?

I tried posting her earlier but I didn’t want to be the guy that said she was no longer hot because she gained weight. She was smoking hot before she gained it though.

I think the thing that really made her less attractive at the end wasn’t the weight gain but the change in the character. In the beginning she was a smart, confident woman. At the end she was a neurotic, needy basket case.

Tyler Florence.

Granted, as a straight male I may not be the best judge of this, but in the past five years or so, Tyler went from a young, charming, inarguably good-looking guy (the next Bobby Flay?) to the next Emeril. And I mean that: just like Emeril, his weight gain seems to be manifested mostly in the tripling of his head circumference, with attendant “shiny red face” and “permanently squinty eyes.”

It’s downright weird to see.

And before Cheers, she was deadly, weapons-grade hot in The Wrath of Khan.

:smack:

By men, not me. Never met her, let alone hit on her.

:smack:

Thanks; you’re right; what the Hell was happening with my brain yesterday? Is it possible to go dyslexic in middle age? Now I feel like a putz.

Concur.

And I’ll be stealing that “weapons-grade hot” line to boot.

As to my earlier scurrillous comment about Dana Scully, let me be the first to say that I enjoy everything that pregnancy does to a woman’s body outside the actual having-a-parasite-inside-her part, and that’s what I enjoyed so much about Gillian’s look during the first few seasons of X-Files. I didn’t realize when I posted that that this was going to wind up being an exclusively “hot=skinny” thread. Sorry.

It isn’t. Off the top of my head, Courteney Cox and Sarah Michelle Gellar were both called out in the first 10-15 posts for excessive thinness.

Fair enough. Maybe I should’ve said “not thin = not hot.”

She also become a Scientologist around the time she got big. Coincidence? lol.

It wasn’t just that she gained weight though, she just seemed to age about 15 years in a few years time. Her skin and hair looked bad, and she lost the healthy glow she had before baby.

Nooo! We aren’t saying that being fat doesn’t make one less hot. Whether it does or not is a matter of opinion. I think he thought it sad (and I think it strange) that one would think being less hot means that the protaganist wouldn’t believably be in love with the person. It happens that way all the time. See what we’re saying now?

Erica Durance of Smallville started out kinda hot, but she’s just gotten too weathered in my opinion. Gimme Allison Mack any day.

Yes, I got defensive, and I’m sorry (and, for some reason, thought about my response on this thread all day at work). I always thought she was an exotic beauty, and the only reason she came to mind was because I saw a 2 page ad in a magazine, featuring her shilling for diet pills. In the ad (it was one of those testimonials), she explained how she eventually wasn’t able to get work because of her size. That thought was triggered by this thread.

Clearly, a lifelong friendship shouldn’t be ended by a change in one’s physical appearance. Nor should a lifelong love. I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise.

That’s what is so odd about her casting to me. In my opinion, she always looked weathered. When I first saw her, I didn’t know she was Louis Lane, and I assumed she was some thirty year old aquaintence of the Kents. When they started calling her Louis I thought, “That’s funny, he’ll know another Louis later.”

You are not alone.

For what it’s worth, I always liked Topanga, too.

How about Helen Hunt in Mad About You? She went from a cute little ball of neuroses to a shrewish stick figure who wouldn’t think twice about poking your eye out with that brand new pointy nose.

“Louis?” Do you know something about Superman that we don’t know?

(And I agree, Erica looks about 15 years older than the other tweens on the show. Who are all probably in their 20’s now.)

Marg Helgenberger is one of the leading reasons for slow adoption of HDTV in the United States.

Just kidding. I liked her twenty years ago(!) on China Beach, and don’t watch any of the CSIs.

Leah Remini? What about Nicole Sullivan as Holly? She went from a quirky funny sexy woman to an anorexic annoying asshole.

Miss Brahms (Wendy Richard) of Are You Being Served? was a knockout when the show began, by about the 5th series she had lost most of it and by the end of the run was well past her prime and looked almost as old as Mrs. Slocumbe.
