Sorry, I’ve been away from the thread. I’ve had a busy day, away from my computer.

> [@Harriet\_the\_Spry](#):

> “I’ve Never Been to Me” by Charlene would fit right in here.

Any song that has “taking parts” is exceptionally cheesy.

> [@Mariemarie](#):
>
> Eats\_Crayons, do you want this playlist to be a pleasant listening experience? Many of the songs listed are of the Knitting-needles-to-the-ears variety. But guess that is a matter of opinion.

I plan on judiciously constructing a playlist that will not make anyone’s head explode, but that ought to result in drunken crooning if played at a party. I’m hoping to get the songs everyone makes fun of and yet secretly sings along to when they think no one is listening. For example, I actually had no idea that I actually KNOW the lyrics to an Air Supply tune well enough to sing along to it. Never owned ne of their albums and neither did my parents. Yet somehow this song is in my brain!

Awesome suggestions so far!

**Helpless** as a kitten up a tree, even. 🙂

And, yes, Mathis sang it, among other people.

Oh I cannot agree with this. THe song is fantastic, especially with its overt sexual innuendo that at the time was pretty shocking, I believe.

\*Pussycat, Pussycat
You’re delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I’ll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat lips!

Well all right then!

**Herb Alpert** - “This Guy’s in Love With You”
**Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons** - “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”, and “Sherry”
**The Association** - “Cherish”
**Righteous Brothers** - “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling”
**The Partridge Family** - “I Think I Love You”

There’s a band in town called **Guilty Pleasures** who perform this sort of material, complete with props, costumes, and guest performers for different songs. **ABBA** ’s “Dancing Queen” is on their songlist. Too fun!

Nah, just have a very good memory for lyrics. And, yeah, I looked it up just to make sure.

The actual name of the song is “Misty”, just FYI…and it’s the song referred to in the title of the Clint Eastwood movie “Play Misty For Me”.

“Lucky Man” by EL&P? See, I’d go for cheesy but still listenable. “Part of the Plan” by Dan Fogelberg, “I got a Line on You” by Spirit. And you’ve GOT to include “It’s Not Unusual” by Tom Jones

btw: “Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti” is famous in that it should be a much shorter line. They somehow shoehorned in extra syllables (I count TEN), but made it sound _deeeeep_.

Maybe that’s what the early 80s were about: making fromage seem _deeeep_ (cf. Hesse, Brautigan, Kesey and Fogelberg 🙂

No cheesy playlist would be complete without some Tony Orlando. _Knock Three Times_ and/or _Tie A Yellow Ribbon_.

_Copacabana_ by Barry Manilow

If you include some Partridge Family, you have to have _Sunshine Day_ by the Brady Bunch.

If you can stomach it, how about _We Are the World_?

Disco is cheesy, so don’t forget some KC and the Sunshine Band

You also need that one song, you know:

_I come from a land down under
Where women blow (??) and men chunder
Can you hear can you hear the thunder
You’d better run, you’d better take cover_

For extra cheesiness!

“I’ve had the time of my liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife, and I owe it all to youuuuuuuuuuuuu…”

“Just a Friend” by Biz Markie is pretty cheesy.

And more from the hair metal power ballad vein:
“I Remember You” by Skid Row
“Don’t Cry” by GnR (also, “Patience”)
“Without You” by Motley Crue
“Fly To The Angels” by Slaughter (I think?)
“I’ll Never Let You Go” by Steelheart
“High Enough” by Damn Yankees (or that other song they did that I’m blanking on right now)
“Sometimes She Cries” or “Heaven” by Warrant
“More than Words” by Extreme
“To Be With You” by Mr. Big

Can’t forget:

“Love Hurts” by Nazareth
“Sister Christian” by Night Ranger
“Right Here Waiting For You” by Richard Marx
“Broken Wings” by Mr. Mister
“Shout” by Tears for Fears
“I Remember You” by Skid Row
“Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison

This is only a small spattering of my 80’s mp3 collection.

Kenny Rogers. “You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille.”

Timothy! Which I just learned was written by the undisputed Duc du Fromage, Rupert Holmes, the man who also brought you “The Pina Colada Song.” For those of you who have missed this stinky gem, here’s the story: [Timothy by Buoys - Songfacts](http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2005)
