Yes, after last night, my thought process led me to consider this topic. It seem obvious that the midterm results are a repudiation of MAGA. That leaves administration insiders, someone like JD Vance or Marco Rubio, in a much worse position than they were before the midterms. Looking at the list of Senators doesn’t reveal any promising names either. Ted Cruz is probably at the top of that list, but he will now have to contend with Texas being blue and being the only Republican holding statewide office. The only other name from the Senator list that stood out even a little to me is Tom Cotton. What about governors? That list also looks similarly lacking any obvious choices. Outgoing Florida governor Ron DeSantis is the name that stood out the most. Who else am I missing? Maybe a traditional “old school” Republican like John Kasich or Mitt Romney? What do you all think? My early guess is that Ron DeSantis will run. As of now seems like he has the fewest negatives among likely Republican primary voters of all the Republicans I think might run, so I’ll list him as the tentative early favorite. ---
