> Everywhere has some risk. Most places don’t have nearly as much risk as Florida.

That’s because Florida is barely above sea level. The risk of tropical storms and hurricanes bringing storm surges is just added fun. Florida’s regressive climate-change-denying political culture completes the trifecta of risk.

> Between the Everglades to the west and Biscayne Bay, which stretches from Lake Okeechobee southward to Florida Bay, Miami and its suburbs are situated on a large plain. The majority of the communities, particularly those close to the seaside, are on average only 6 feet above sea level.

> Is there a yacht that claims to be unsinkable?

This isn’t a yacht but it claims to be the closest thing to unsinkable you’ll be able to find.

> **[Thunder Child, the unsinkable boat? Self-righting, wavepiercing interceptor...](https://www.ediweekly.com/thunder-child-unsinkable-boat-self-righting-wavepiercing-interceptor-designed-naval-law-enforcement-use-engineered-nearly-perfect-boat-offshore-patrol-operations/)**

To be fair, it doesn’t claim to be **100%** unsinkable:

> Not only can Thunder Child pierce the waves, she can also recover from full capsize thanks to a fully buoyant and water-tight cabin and low centre of gravity. Thunder Child is designed to be “almost’ unsinkable — after all, nothing is entirely unsinkable — rated safe up to sea state 8.

And [according to Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_state), sea state 8 is a condition where waves are 9-14 meters (30-46 ft) high; it’s the second-to-worst sea condition a ship might deal with. Sea state 9 is literally anything over 14 meters high. So this should be able to withstand 9 meter (30 ft) waves. That seems crazy to me.

A bit more detail on the boat:

> A crew of 10 can be comfortably seated, 6 on shock mitigation seats and 4 on fixed seats in her main cabin, a separate heads and sleeping compartment in her f/wd cabin.

It doesn’t look too bad on the inside:

that’s NOT coincidence, (neither is DJT’s stupidity on this matter) … if you have all your assets [your house] literally on a sinking boat, the only way you can keep it (somewhat) from devaluation is making cognitive sommersaults, negating the fact.

People in FLA will always be like that, otherwise they’d reckon their houses are sinking and becoming basically worthless. Same for Mar-a-lago.

People who reckon climate change is real, got out there years ago, before it bacame obvious to the eye.

The houseboat _Busted Flush_ used to travel along the west Florida coast and even out to small Caribbean islands in the Travis McGee novels, though he had to be alert for bad weather.

As to the OP, will it be “Screw California” after the next severe drought and uncontrolled wildfires culminate with a major burp from the San Andreas Fault?

The West Coast seems a ripe place to be a billionaire… but what do you do with the yacht? Trips to Mexico, central and south America and back? Your boat might look mighty tempting to a crew looking for an easy way to ship drugs.

Trips to OR, WA, and Alaska and back?

Test your nautical prowess and try for HI? ( It might be another 10 years until Maui is fully rebuilt )

Florida does have a good range of ports of call in both the eastern & western Caribbean… but will Florida remain viable? If not, what then… head north and try to spend your money in Charleston? Head further north to the colder weather of NJ, Montauk, CT, or RI? Try to handle the much colder weather of Maine or Canada?

Or become a Masshole? ( Might as well change your last name to Affleck )
Decisions, decisions…

The main reason I am living in Massachusetts is I didn’t want to live through another fire season (year round now). I’ve lived through an earthquake that destroyed my house. Earthquakes are not caused by global climate change, and in any case are in my opinion not to be compared with fire. I don’t have to say screw California, it is already screwed. It’s the greatest bitterness of my life, what humans have done to it.

“Fuck Florida” because of Rick Scott, DeSantis, Rubio, Gaetz, etc. The state as it stands is ok, floridaman notwithstanding. I want to like Florida if only for its nature.
I think Rick Scott is (maybe) the worst US senator, worse than Cruz. Cruz is a total buffoon. Scott is the most sanctimonious, two faced, evil I-hate-the-poors POS of the whole 100. At least you know where Tuberville stands. Scott votes like him and thinks like him, but you never hear about it. The wealthiest senator as well. I hate that the Nelson campaign couldn’t tap on how out of touch Scott is.

I heard plenty of that over the 30+ years I lived there, pretty much up to my last day at work. I said then as I say now, “I’d rather shake n bake than go through a(nother) hurricane”.
