Actually, depending on your organization, its purpose, and its goals, it is actually quite effective, practical, and better than other venues. Maintaining a separate, proper page? May be time consuming, you may need someone with the expertise (well, you may have it), and still requires regular maintenance. Facebook page? With tagging members in pictures, sharing/promoting pictures, videos, and events instantenously (instead of in a web page that may or may not get looked at)? Instant recognition and promotion, increase exposure, increase the amount of people interested, increase the publicity. With relatively little knowledge and effort. You can set your page so that you dont have pictures, so that nobody can write on your wall, so that nobody can search you, etc. Seriously, it sounds like someone who doesnt want to embrace some newer technology that can have its advantages, particularly with younger generations. Even my dad (old fogey in many things) saw its advantages and is an avid FB user (I do not have him on my list on FB). And hey, at least it is not Twitter. I refused to set up a Twitter page for my group, and I was the most online-always person in the club, so no Twitter page for the club so far. ---

I had to have another surgery to save my life not long after that. While I was in the hospital they dislocated my newly repaired wrist and now I might need another surgery on it. It would be my 14th surgery overall. At best I’m looking at another month in a cast if I can ever get back to ortho. Before that can happen, the abdominal incision that came open in May will have to close and stay that way. This was the just the last straw. It had to go somewhere so I put it in the pit. I could be out shooting up a mall or something instead. You guys can whine that it’s not vicious enough for you all you want. I get that it’s not a big deal TO YOU. Obviously, I’m completely alone in feeling the way I do. Same as I ever was. Bite me. ---

Agreed, fuck Facebook. Their privacy settings are like thinking you can safely stick your ass out of a prison cell by hanging a ‘do not disturb’ sign on it. Do not tell me to block everyone I loathe; frankly I take pride and pleasure in having forgotten them all, and I’d like to keep it that way. Walled gardens exist for a reason. Sometimes they’re good. ---

I too hate Facebook, but it’s an internal hate, so I won’t expand on it here. I will say I hate how it permeates into other parts of the web. ESPN just changed their “comments” section to use ONLY FB log-in credentials if you want to comment on anything. Fuck them. And yes, life is hard. But I will cope. 🙂 ---
