What is most likely is Noem wrote a book filled with her dull life and dull opinions. No one wanted to read it, but considering this is a VP possibility someone jumped on that grenade. That person sat through this entire dull experience and garnered the only interesting topic anyone could identify with, that of the death of a family pet. Americans love to tell you what they think of your animal, it’s likely that is why most have them, to talk about them. Suddenly she’s getting attention and some of it is bad, she thought that bad was coming from puppy hugging liberals so the ideal solution here is to reinforce the ideals of ownership and discipline that may play well to her base and is just the thing to start a national career like Sarah Palin. The snag is the jokes are too easy, the act too despicable, and the consequence is an explosion on the launch pad that everyone involved deserved and should have seen coming. Mirth. Mirth, I say. Mirth. ---

Where did the picture of Cricket come from? You only keep pictures of well loved pets. Not one you _hated_. And killed, 15+ years ago. I would’ve taken that dog in a heartbeat. Those are an excellent breed. A hound or '_sporting_ breed are notoriously hard-headed, stubborn. They need to have a _job_ and loads of activity. They can make nice pets, but people need to understand how much work it will be. If this Noem person hunted, and knew the breed you use for partridge, she should’ve known this. She is an idiot. Now she’s shown the whole world she’s an idiot. ---

Interestingly, the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago will accept any animal (except a human) that is brought in. Yes, they only have dogs and cats for adoption but, if you brought in an alligator they’d take it and then find somewhere else that will take it. They originally started to save draft horses in Chicago. I get that such places are not accessible to everyone (distance) but the point is such places do exist as do other, more specific rescues (as you mentioned). I suppose shooting your dog is the easiest thing to be rid of it but it is trivial for most people to unload an unwanted dog without killing it. ---
