Thing is, Nixon had to contend with a House of Ds (Senate, too). Bad-hair-guy has a properly-aligned Congress, so he can just get them to tweak the rules so that his scandals become acceptable. Ex post facto only applies to guilt, not innocence.
Nixon was a decent pianist (although his composing skills weren’t particularly impressive).

I was 18 when Nixon resigned. Young and full of idealistic notions, I was positive that our country could never be so deceived again, that we had learned from this experience. In college, as a Poli Sci major, I learned a grudging admiration for Nixon’s foreign policy acumen. This didn’t make Tricky Dick any less venal in my eyes, but it did make him qualified, at least on one front, for the office. It still never occurred to me that this country, a scant 40 years later, would elect an individual who was both venal and unqualified on any front for the office.
Somewhere in the toasty portion of the afterlife, Nixon is having a good chuckle at our expense.
Jeezkrits don’t say that! In 2008 I had to tell lots of people that no, Obama supporters don’t think he’s the messiah. No, he’s just the best candidate, the only one with a chance of being great.
So please, don’t be going on with that metaphysical embodiment of change crap.

Nothing “metaphysical” about it, a tad metaphorical, but that’s about it. I agee that many of us in the reality based community over-reacted. Obama was, and remains, a mildly progressive centrist, which, under the circumstances, was a welcome change, far as I was concerned.
But he didn’t have to be a revolutionary change to set the Forces of Darkness into full-on batshit baboon mode. They are not conservatives they are reactionaries, they are not insisting on prudent and cautious change, they want to turn the clock back. If some of the left over-reacted to the message of hope and change, the right went completely ballistic berserk.
Obama was, and remains, a centrist, He sent the right candy, flowers, and offers of compromise and reason. They sent him restraining orders. Because they saw him as “change”.
Tim Kaine plays a pretty fair harmonica.
Trump plays the dog whistle.
