I sort of felt bad for Bigboi (as bad as I can feel for a millionaire that will get laid more in a day then…) because he really wants to keep it going. Andre just seems to be wacking out big time. He wants to start some punk rock band, and make some crazy jazz jungle like SquarePusher. They were offered a million bucks for a 60 minute concert, and the article said andre turned it down without flinching in about a nanosecond. I know this doesn’t sound bad, but there was a bunch of shit how andre was blowing off Bigboi, and Bigboi had his grandmother calling andre to plead for one more outkast album. If you can read it, check it out. It’s a strange article. ---

Andre is the “cooler” of the two but definitely the least stable. I feel bad for Big Boi too. ---

I think the double album was the compromise because Andre wanted to do his own weird stuff. I think Speakerboxxx is the more consistent (and better) of the two albums, although it doesn’t hit any of the dizzying heights of “Hey Ya” or “Spread.” I think Andre is doing what a lot of musicians at the peak of popularity find themseves doing, which is engaging in every goofy-ass thought that enters their head without consulting their internal editor (or an external editor for that matter), in part to exercise their creative freedom and in part to see how far their audience will follow them regardless of the crap they pump out. (In Utero comes to mind.) That’s why there’s more misogany and scatology flying around Speakerboxxx than you can shake a stick at – Andre is trying to frighten off his fans and/or testing them. I think if OutKast wanted to, they could write their ticket by doing a series of standard-length albums with each member contributing half the songs so long as BigBoi is allowed to pick which tracks make the cut. But I doubt Andre would accept that kind of loss of control. Of course, they’re the ones with the grammys, so what do I know? –Cliffy ---
