I live on an isthmus between two large lakes, a bay, and two more lakes, with three more down the pike. And this is Wisconsin, where winter lasts from the Autumnal Equinox to National Bunsen Burner Day (3/31). It feels like those lakes are lousy with ice fishermen for almost half the year. From a tall building you can look in any direction and see a carpet of colorful parkas and ice shacks on the lakes. It always looks like the frigid fanatics outnumber the fish. But my point _(thank you for sticking with me long enough to hear it…)_ is that after sixty years of watching this pageantry, I have never once seen a truck out on the ice. They drive TO the lake, leave their precious trucks on the shore and cart their twelve-packs out to the shack on their kids’ sleds. Oh, I’ve seen a snowmobile or two on the frozen waterways, but the trucks stay safe. ---
