Yes, we are often overlooked.
fuck the designer of center speedometers with a glass shard-covered dildo.multiple times.in the ass.
golf clap
bra-vo.
Short people got no reason to drive (a car without an adjustable seat, wheel, and pedals.)
Honestly, I hadn’t thought of the airbag aspect because I’ve never had any experience with an airbag deploying; although, I have been involved in a couple of accidents (rear-ended on the highway in heavy traffic and blown off an icy road into a ditch). In both instances, I was able to brace for the impact and, in the first, instinctively managed to turn off the radio (I don’t know why), take the truck out of gear, grip the steering wheel and stand (both feet) on the brake before getting hit. It all happened so fast and yet I still braced in anticipation. Of course, it’s quite possible to have an accident you don’t see coming, but I try to be alert enough to minimize that without being tense. Perhaps, given my past experience, I’m (overly?) confident in my ability to react. You do bring up a good point, though.
Usually, I drive in 10/2 position, but when I’m camped in the fast lane with cruise control activated, I get comfortable. I’m back at 10/2 when traffic is heavier and when changing lanes, since I can’t reach the turn signal from 12 o’clock.
After my post yesterday, I went for another drive and noted that the centered instrument panel does seem to enhance my vision of the highway if only because when I’m looking at the speedo, my peripheral vision is showing me what’s in front of my car; as opposed to looking downward, the eyelids effectively block vision of what’s above the eyeline. It’s subtle, but it’s there.
That sounds like a truly terrible design idea - when I’m messing with controls as I’m driving, I take the quickest possible glance to make sure I’m hitting the right knob - forcing me to page through menus to do something like adjust a radio or the heater would be a deal-breaker for me buying a car. And not being able to do it with my gloves on - double deal-breaker.
I’m driving one now (well, not right now) and it never occured to me to complain about it.
In my Saturn I have a center speedometer and it doesn’t bother me in the least. Actually, I prefer it because then I can have my cell phone where the speedometer “should be” and can look at my GPS through my steering wheel.
First thing I thought when I read this…
… was I guess we know who invented the center mount speedo!
You mean you’re not using paper maps?!
