# Fuck the stupid people on Battle.Net and such

People occasionally ask me, baffled, why I haven’t hooked myself up to broadband yet. Someone who games, who has the capability to hook up broadband, but yet doesn’t, very nearly gives them aneurysms to contemplate.

“It’s the only way you can play multiplayer games!” they protest.

“So I can pay twice as much per month for the privilege of being called ‘fag’ by 13 year olds?”

“But ummm downloading…”

“What do I want to download? If it’s large patches, I start it off and go read a book or take a walk.”

“Uhhhh kazaa…”

“I buy my music.”

Remember that scene from _Scanners_? Yeah, like that.

Once you have played Day Of Defeat, there is no other online game worthy of your time. DoD is a mod for Half-Life and it completely 0wZ0rZ all the other HL mods. Why? No medics/healthpacks, no ammo crates, complete realism, actual weapons, a historical timeline, and gamers who average out to be 35 years old. Most of the CSers try it and are disgusted because they have to support their teammates and play carefully to win. Hell, my 54 year old dad is a machinegunner most days in it!

This is why I avoid online gaming. If I must play multiplayer, I’ll get my husband, or a couple of gamer friends together, and play without the annoyance of a bunch of illiterate 12-year-olds.
