30 didn’t bother me at all. Oddly enough, at 37, all of a sudden I realized I was an adult - how did that happen?? Now I’m 60 - that doesn’t bother me either. Altho I don’t recall my knees aching as much at 30… ---

The day I turned 30, I was getting ready to go out (my friends planned a big night bar hopping in NYC) and was poking around my apartment. I leaned forward slightly to pick up a pen off my desk and boom- herniated disc. Well, I guess this is old age. A handful of ibuprofen later I was out and enjoyed the evening, but I’ve had recurring back issues ever since. But the fact is that my 30’s was my favorite decade so far. I graduated from law school, fell in love, got married, bought a house, had two kids… became a responsible adult. It’s been great. ---

Nope, 30 didn’t get me. Neither did 40. I’ll be 45 in a couple of months, though, and that’s giving me pause. ---

The day before was my last day at a job that had gradually turned to shit, and on my birthday I started a full-time job at a place I had been working part-time at the weekends for years. Didn’t feel weird, more like liberated! ---

In my 20s, I was at the death bed of a family friend and personal mentor. He points to his head and says to me: “In here, I’m still as young as you!” He might have said something else, but those are what I remember as his parting words to me. I relive that moment every time I think of my own advancing years. ---

I didn’t mind turning 30, I mind the joint pain I have in my 30s I never had in my 20s. And it is going to get worse over the next 50 years. ---
