In general, I’m against confiscation of money or property by the government as part of a criminal case. Yes, that includes Mafia types and drug smugglers.
The article didn’t say explicitly what possibilities the judge has for sentencing. There are likely fines available, and some laws allow for restitution to the victim as part of the sentence. If fines and restitution should force the Sous to make their own sale of the farm for the payoff, I’m fine with that.
If the victims of the brothers wish to take them to civil court and are awarded everything they own, I’m fine with that too.
