Hate to break the news, but if you think ONE Canadian thinks the way she does, chances are many Canadians do, but they’re too gutless to admit it. On behalf of Aussies around the world, we would like to thank you for the comic relief youve provided in blaming Canada for your problems. It’s always comforting to see that no matter what goes on in the world, some things NEVER CHANGE. Thank God we’re not neighbours; you’d blame it on the kangaroos and the Crocodile Hunter. My statement was a word play on _Penis Envy_ but you (and quite possibly your fiance) lack a penis so you missed it. But wouldn’t it be funny if the cow actually _was_ from Canada? Cheeky would probably claim that the US planted it there. Folks I have to fess up on one thing. Q.E.D. correct me if I’m wrong on this medically. It’s my understanding that Mad Cow Disease affects the brain of a cow. Unless you eat the brain or part of the spinal tissue, no problem. Eating the muscle tissue (meat) would have no consequence whatsoever. We’re not talking Hoof-and-Mouth disease here. And yeah, the cow came from Canada. (Waits impatiently for the UN-fuck America apology) ---

You are correct, **duffer.** The problem is that with certain types of meat processing, such as “mechanical separation” wherein flesh is flayed from spinal bones, the meat may be contaminated with neural matter that’s being inadvertently grabbed and/or flung around by the machines. Thus, as I understand it, the problem is much greater for ground meat than it is for whole meat like steaks and rounds and such. So keep enjoying those filets, but keep your fingers crossed on the burgers. ---

The reason we Canadians are so upset about this is because there doesn’t seem to be any other reason to reveal the Canadian link other than to blame us. They’re not even sure if the cow is actually from Canada; they have to wait on DNA tests to be sure. Why mention Canada until they’re sure? And even if the cow did come from Canada, what exactly does that mean? It could have easily have caught BSE in the States, but your investigators seem too busy [trying to tie this into the Canada at the moment](http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031230/ap_on_re_us/mad_cow&cid=519&ncid=716) to examine that possibility. We’re getting deeply suspicious that you’re hoping you can convince trading partners that it’s our problem, not yours. Call this paranoid if you like, but the US has fucked Canada over time and time again in trade issues, and we’re getting tired of it. ---

Sigh, I’m going to try this one more time, and folow closely now, my forehead is sore. The report you linked to suggests that _preliminary evidence_ may indicate the suspect bovine originated in Alberta. No indictment of the Canadian people. “No doubt that will be a very important component of the investigation,” DeHaven said, adding that it is premature to conclude there are any ties between the two diseased cows." Part of an epidemiolgical study is locating “patient zero.” This is more like police work than science and holy flirking schnitt, it often ends up crossing borders and involving more than one country. Once this is accomplished the investigators can use all the fancy DNA techniques, etc to try to reconstruct the cause of the outbreak and contain it. The press however tends to be impatient when it comes to waiting for lab results… “DeHaven said that DNA studies now under way would provide more evidence on the origin of the cow that was infected. They also are examining records of the herd that included the infected cow.” On TV this gets watered down as “Mad Cow outbreak linked to Alberta.” No matter where origin of said cow, however, this will not change the fact that the entire North American beef market will suffer. All major importers of US beef have already banned imports. Do you honestly think they will go along with the evil empire’s TM plan for world domination by excluding ONLY Canadian beef? Please kill this thread someone, move along there is nothing to see here. If you want to slam the US(and I know you do 🙂 ) just open an America bashing thread instead of trying to veil it behind tenuous conspiracy theories. Hey folks! Here I am. Point at my head if you want. After reading all of this I noticed many of you didn’t read the very first line of my post, did you? 🙂 I wish I had more talent at transferring thoughts to words, but I don’t. To boil this down, it doesn’t matter where the disease originated from. I wish I would have implied that when I wrote the OP, but I didn’t. Cows don’t care about political boundaries and they get transferred(in whatever form) from nation to nation. Many all eat it, and many are afraid of it(myself excluded) because of media hype(fuck those assholes too haha). Do I hate America? No. Do I hate Americans? No. Do I feel insecure? No. Do I still see this situation with finger pointing? Yes. Someone earlier was impatiently waiting for an apology because of my post. I am sorry if I offended -YOU-. Did you understand the first line of my post? Someone else who replied thought I was low. Oh well, this IS the pit heh. Don’t take this to heart. Did you read the first line in my OP?
