I’m HAPPY that you don’t visit the US except to change planes… I don’t want any Americans thinking you’re in any way typical of Canada… I may not always agree with things that happen in the US, but I’ve got enough brains to realize that the US is a democratic nation with more than one viewpoint… Here’s a primer… the US is a big country… and you know how Albertans and Quebecers see things differently? Now the DNA test has confirmed what shipping documents, herd records and other information indicated all along. The cow came from Canada. The only case of finger-pointing I’ve seen connected with this incident is **CheekyMonkey613** ’s. “It’s not a minor issue to Canadian farmers who have been implicated WAY too prematurely. \It’s about time you guys SUCK IT UP when you take a foul instead of manipulating the news to keep up the facade that America is SO great.” Ok, Cheeky, if you must have finger-pointing, it was YOUR foul. Happy now? FWIW, American beef is moving at a normal rate through the supermarkets and hamburger places. There is no impending economic disaster that anyone can detect. Nobody’s panicked, and nobody’s blaming Canada. It appears the deal is under control. The only memorys I have of Canada are fond. A short trip up there one summer, and a very nice nurse from Alberta that I met and spent a weekend with in Washington, DC once upon a time. The words to: “Oh, Canada” were among the several things she taught me. 😃 ---

Sure, the BSE thing isn’t a criminal investigation, but since their are some high money interest concerned, TRANSPARENCY MUST BE MAINTAINED. This meant reporting the preliminary Alberta connection. ---

[Tests Confirm Mad Cow Came From Canada](http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20040107_116.html). Although this article is dated today, the news first broke **yesterday** , not two weeks ago. That’s my whole point. Now the question is: HOW did that cow get the disease? Okay, so this cow was purchased from Alberta, independent tests conducted by the US and Canada confirm the cow was born in Alberta, there was a known case of BSE in Alberta last year… …yet it’s still premature to investigate that link further? It’s possible that the Lord Jesus Christ halted time and came down to Washington a couple months ago and infected the cow, then went off laughing about what a great joke he played. Or it’s possible that the cow was infected in Washington sometime in the past few years after the feed ban, and there’s a new way the disease is transmitted. Or it’s possible that the cow was infected in Alberta in the same manner as last year’s cow. I’m just guessing here, but I think investigating the most likely of those options is the proper course of action, and then eliminating them as they go. And if it comes down to the fact that the Savior and Son of Man has punk’d us, then holy shit, I’m getting my ass to the confessional. ---

In watching this whole thing unfold, am I the only person who thought to themselves, “Ya know, If they can find and track one cow out of the millions that are raised and moved around, and track down what it ate\*\* 6 fucking years ago, \*\*well then, I guess the system works pretty damn well?” Me? I can’t remember what I had for breakfast. One more thing. BSE is not contagious from cow to cow (at least I don’t think so). The issue was to find out how and where it got infected in the first place, (i.e. eating contaminated feed). You see, if this particular cow ate contaminated feed, then the odds are pretty good that all its cow-buddies ate the same and could be potentially infected. Ah the slathering ravings of a dimwit. Right off the bat, the beef industry did get (is getting) completely screwed over up here. Alberta and Ontario have been pretty badly hit (~1.5 Billion I think). The immediate closing of the US border and the long drawn out re-opening (party fueled by friction between Chrétien and Bush) has decimated our export market (US 72% of exports or ~50% or production). The discovery of an American BSE case did several things. 1. Fear of links to Canada thereby prolonging the agony 2. A certain amount of Schadenfreude watching the American’s get hung out to dry as the rest of the world slammed their doors shut. 3. Irritation that the American reaction to lost exports was to claim that it was a single case and the meat handling within the country was superb. All arguments made by the Canadian industry to American officials to no avail. I have no problems with the initial tentative claim that the cow came from Canada. If the Dept. of Agriculture had said they had no idea where the cow had come from there would have been blood in the streets (or at least cubical farms). Given the integration of the two industries it was very likely the cow came from Canada. My biggest beef is with the Canadian government not taking the initiative away from the US beef industry by convening a NA council to drive universal standards up. My second biggest beef is with slack jawed idiots unfortunately blessed with the ability to type. **cheeky** you don’t make much more sense here than you did with your last **FUCK THE US!!** meltdown. ---
