QED, I mainly had a problem with your “it’s just a game, stupid” post, because it came across as snide and condescending, thus my longer post in response to that. Your next post just re-stated snottily what’s been said a hundred times in this thread as if I didn’t catch that already, so THAT came across as condescending as well. In any event, I agree that our pal buttonjockey has hopped the express train to Crazytown, and there are quite a few people sitting with him. ---

It IS just a game, folks! Wishing death on that fan (who probably acted out of instinct - hell, how many times have we seen a fan go for the ball?? Wouldn’t you, not knowing the end result?) is really pathetic. If the Cubs were meant to win, they would have. ---

The orignal post you took exception to was me quoting him and directing my comments in his general direction. I stand by that, **Gundy**! I mean, we’re not talking about the Mavericks, Stars or Cowboys here! Oh, damn, I meant the Rangers. Really, though - I feel sorry for that guy. To put it in perspective: it’s not as if he fell asleep at the wheel and 10 people lost their lives on a ferry. We all make huge mistakes in life, but most of us are lucky enough to avoid making them in front of so many people! ---

Everyone bitching about cubs fans should settle down. No one on this thread is going to go find him and beat him up. It’s just an irrational expression of anger. If you really believe that someone on this thread is really going to hunt this guy down then I’ve got some nice lakefront property in Iowa to show you. And let’s not act like cubs fans are the worst. English soccer fans anyone? How about you go to a Rangers/Islanders game. How about when Philidelphia Eagles fans booed Santa? ---

No one in this thread may hurt they guy, but he’s been receiving death threats. He has an armed sentry at his door. He’s staying in an undisclosed location. He may leave the city permanently now that the Cubs lost the series. Gov. Jeb Bush offered him asylum at a Florida resort. There are _plenty_ of people who will do irrational things. Just because you are fairly sure that no one at this message board (which is in no way representative of the Chicago population) will harm the guy, that doesn’t mean that no one at all will. ---

**CG** , they can be if barfights are a way of life with them. They can be if they stand to lose a significant amount of money that was bet on the game. Or they can be if they’re part of a mob. Small ‘m’, although it wouldn’t surprise me if the captial-M mob had something unpleasant in mind. At any rate, a group of drunken bar patrons could easily mobilize towards this person’s house, with tragic results. I do think that the Sun-Times was irresponsible in printing his name and place of employment, although their culpability is somewhat less in 2003 than it would have been in an earlier era. That info would have gotten on the net anyway, and traveled so fast it would have made the dissemination of the Star Wars Kid video, the Tourist Guy photos, and Mahir’s site look like slow evolution. ---
