[Over here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=448415&page=2) , Moderator Czarcasm locks and closes a thread in which I ask a legitimate question and several people discuss it. The question was half factual - it this legal? - and half opinion - Do you think people will freak out? It’s a legitimate question and is not stupid, but this Moderator, taking after his idol Tubadiva and the other moderators around here that do their best to be as rude as possible to posters and to alienate as many people as possible, has to fit in an insult - “Stupid Question.” Fuck you. It’s not a stupid question. I defended it about 10 or 15 times in the thread, victoriously proving that it’s _not_ an unreasonable practice against idiot posters who made \*\*ridiculous \*\* comparisons to model rocketry and hobbies involving chemicals and glue. You have absolutely no call to declare that question “stupid.” I see OP’s that are ridiculous stupid on here **every day** and nobody ridicules them or locks their thread. You had no reason to lock that thread, which was still in mid-discussion. In particular, I was looking forward to more discussion from people who have had issues with other hobbyist items like knitting needles since 9/11. This isn’t a drive-by, either. Bring it on! I’ll defend that OP to any poster, above-the-law Mod or otherwise. ---

I think I’ve flown once or twice since 9/11. I wasn’t even aware of these weird liquid bands until recently. I wanted to know if I was legally permitted to carry that stuff onboard or if it was banned, and then on an opinion level if others thought that would be problematic. Since it isn’t banned, **I still really don’t think it would or should be a problem and am probably going to do it when I fly this Saturday**. If anyone wonders what it is, I’ll show them how I can make a little LED flash or make a little buzzer squawk, and they’ll probably be delighted. It’s NOT a stupid question. ---

[/QUOTE] To use VCO3’s logic, all you need to do is explain to the manager that you’re an avid skiier, and there shouldn’t be a problem. ETA: \*\* VCO3\*\*, I recommend having the circuit board with a light flashing when you pull it out to work on it. I’m sure everyone will be delighted. ---

[/QUOTE] Well, I was thinking about how a potential misunderstanding could turn into something like that - but I’m going to do everything in my power to keep that from happening, including declaring it at the baggage check, showing and explaining to the flight attendants beforehand, making friends with my seat-mates and letting them know what I’m doing, etc. I mean, let’s be honest - I’m a clean-cut white American citizen that will be wearing a business suit. I so don’t fit the profile of “terrorist” - or even the average person’s mental misconception of the turban-wearing “turrist” - that I don’t think anyone will feel threatened. ---

Oh, please. There are only two alternatives here: 1. You already know how incredibly stupid the idea of bringing electronics components onto a plane is, because, after all, you can clearly read and have been alive and not living in a small, electricity free quonset hut in outer Uzbekistan for the last five years, and you posted the question anyway looking for exactly the kind of ‘What are you? An idiot?’ responses that you got. 2. You’re actually so stupid that you didn’t know the answer to your question. If you want to discuss the ridiculousness of security policy, or even what hobbies might or might not be affected by them, there are better ways to start and continue the thread than with the kind of disingenuousness you used. ---
