Oh for fuck’s sake. Guess what, I get a one-in-a-million side efect from Erythromycin, oh yes and I’m allergic to Penicillen. This means that if I have any infection (even mild bronchitis or sinusitis) I have to opt for very strange antibiotics or face admission to hospital for IV drugs, as that little allergy combo wipes out about 90% of antibiotic medications. Hence I got Septrin (co-trimoxazole) for a Sinus infection, after careful discussion with my doctor. Septrin has some very rare but extrememly serious side effects. We decided, however, that letting the sinusitis continue was more dangerous, and that this was the best option for me, as it would more than likely have fewer side effects than any other medications, and I wouldn’t have to go to hospital. Since Septrin isn’t really used here outside of long-term prophylaxis and treatment of PCP in AIDS patients, my 5 day course caused a kerfuffle in the pharmacy. Not only did I get grilled, but my doctor got a phone call to check that it was the right drug, for the right indication, for the right duration. Some of my colleagues (I’m a final year med student) and the doctors on my rotation saw what I was taking with my meals, and I again got the third degree. Everyone was REALLY worried that my doctor had prescribed the wrong medication. You don’t like your doctor, you don’t like Mirtazapine, big deal. Maybe it was the best option available for you at the time, just like my weird and wacky Septrin was the best for me…not ideal, not perfect, just the best available for ME at the time. Grow up and take some responsibility. Nobody is out to take you for a ride, or deliberately harm you. They may be trying to get you out of their office as soon as possible though… ---

Hey, the title is _cashier_ first of all, I swipe _and_ bag :D, and I practically told you that when I was ranting about the pharmacy cashier girl back on page 2; second of all, _hopefully_ I won’t be doing this for a living (this is part-time work) (cue the jokes about how I will or will be working at McDonalds or some shit); and finally, if I rung customers up for apples that were controlled substances known to cause heart disease, and oranges that can cause incredible weight gain, and Milk that can cause memory loss, even though I’m not the manager (the doctor who prescribed it) but am just the cashier/bagger helping you get it (the pharmacist), I’d still fucking warn you, my customer, b/c I AM NOT A FUCKING STUPID FUCK. AND IF I, A FUCKING CASHIER/BAGBOY AT A FUCKING GROCERY STORE WHO MAKES 7.50 AN HOUR, WOULD HAVE THAT DECENCY AND PRESENCE OF MIND FOR MY CUSTOMERS, THAN HOW CAN THESE OVERPAID FUCKING DOCS AND QUACKS NOT!!! 😃 I turned that one around on your asses, didn’t I? 😉 ---

No, you didn’t, because the cashiers didn’t go to school to learn all about the medicines, and they didn’t actually dispense them. They only hand you the already dispensed medicines, and ring up your total. All they need to know to carry out their jobs is how to run the register/computer, and to take insurance information, sometimes they’ll have patients sign HIPPA forms if the policies have changed. (Most of them are about High School/early college age at my pharmacy.) The cashiers can, however get a printout for you, with information on the medicines _ **if you ask them to do so** _. The ones that I see when I fill my prescriptions also will get the attention of a pharmacist who will talk to me about my medicines if I ask them to. They can’t tell you what they don’t know. That is why it is **YOUR** job to ask for the leaflet, or ask to talk to the pharmacist. ---
