If the people telling you that this relationship is going to lead to nothing but stupid, painful drama are correct, then I’m pretty sure this is the girl for you and you should do everything you can to marry her. That is what you want, right? It’s the only explanation I have for somebody starting a nine page trainwreck of a thread and then six months later starting a new one on the exact same topic. ---

Another thing you can do, besides running away. Ya’ll can take a break from each other. Let her graduate from high school and move out of the house. If her brother is as lazy as you say, it’s unlikely he’ll harm her once she’s out of his presence. Ya’ll can then shack up together and live happily ever after. Breaking off the relationship may seem like caving into a terrorist’s demands. But what’s the alternative? Watching your girlfriend get more bruised and battered (assuming these allegations are true)? Is your girlfriend’s life less important than your desire to be with her? Apparently, she doesn’t think so. She’s already decided she’d rather not be abused anymore. I think breaking up with you is the most reasonable thing she could do short of her reporting him to the police. If you love her and actually respect her as a mature, logically-thinking human being, you will respect this decision. ---
