Your analysis of what I said is as erroneous as your apparent belief in the meaning of the word pusillanimous (alliteration is all well and good but the words used should still have their correct meaning). Just how am I interpreting his actions in the worst possible light? And how am I implying that “everything he does is to fuck Republicans over”? I said he lectured Congressional Republicans and told them to stop listening to Limbaugh. He not only did that, but it was an extremely foolish and amatuerish thing to do. How do you think those Republicans are going to react to being publically told who not to listen to on the radio? To the implication that they are incapable of knowing what to do themselves and that they need Limbaugh to do it for them? And to the fact that they have constituencies to think about and highly resent being talked down to that way? And finally, to the fact that the remarks such as Obama made are certain only to make his Republican opponents that much more determined to oppose him? It also smacks of the ham-handedness I spoke of in which he seems to feel entitled, by virture of having won the election, to tell United States Congressmen who not to listen to on the radio. Quite a lot of gall, that! He made the “I won the election” comment just like I said he did. I didn’t make it up or misinterpret it. And he meant it exactly the way I said he did. How is that interpreting it in the “worst possible” light? And I never said (funny how often I have to say that around here; I need a macro) or implied that he was doing everything he could “to fuck Republicans over”. What I said was that he was operating in a ham-handed way and telling Republicans to get in line because he won the election. That’s not the way bipartisanship works. And finally, I posted to contest the overall nature of the thread, which was to the effect that Gregg was being an unscrupulous asshole to Obama and was giving no consideration whatsoever to how things may have transpired from Gregg’s point of view – a point of view that most of the posters around here undoubtedly feel doesn’t even deserve consideration. One would think he’s supposed to sit there obediently with his hands in his lap and rubber-stamp everything Obama wants, and that to do otherwise is evidence of his betrayal not only to Obama but the entire nation as well. ---

The part that kills me is the no-vote on the stimulus. Join the cabinet or don’t, but do your job for fuck’s sake. You don’t have to share my principles, but at least \*have \*some! Hopefully his constituents feel the same offense. ---

If Gregg really has strong philosophical objections to the President’s economic and stimulus plan, it’s probably good he is withdrawing, rather than either sabotaging it from within the department, or going along with something he believs is wrong or unwise. I know that it’s been said in this thread, “Well, he knew what Obama stood for when he was offered the nomination”, but I really don’t know if that’s true. Congressional Republicans have been pretty consistant in saying that they expected the President to back a smaller, more targeted stimulus package with greater Republican input. ---

IIRC, the stimulus package is 42% tax cuts. That’s a larger percentage than there are Republicans in the House or Senate. They cut two hundred billion dollars from it, and then still all voted against it. ---
